That's a nice change and everyone would be a lot happier if they did more of this.problemchild1976 said:

Lots of people braking (and presumably forcing other traffic to as well) while just bumbling along in traffic. Really annoying when people stop for no real reason, if you can let someone out without slowing the traffic much then go for it (imo, and how I do it), but I won't stop for someone else.
but if turning right and someone is waiting to pull out then let them out and cross behind them - this actually reduces the bunching and brakingsome of the letting people out was a bit annoying though i do agree but there was a clip when the whole junction worked so well together it was clear in seconds - perfect

It's when everything is cruising along nicely in the suburbs and you keep getting stopped by do-gooders oblivious to the chaos behind them.

I rarely do that now.
IME 9 out of 10 people either don't see you letting them out, aren't sure you're letting them out or just don't move for some other reason, but since you've now flashed them out you have to sit there till they wake up.
thats the trouble and what causes the people to hesitate. Its becoming less common so when it happens the person isn't sure! It bugs me i slow moving traffic on the school run and no one lets you out.... whats the point?? Can't we all just be nice and polite?IME 9 out of 10 people either don't see you letting them out, aren't sure you're letting them out or just don't move for some other reason, but since you've now flashed them out you have to sit there till they wake up.

TBH its hard to tell what the visibility is like to overtake but personally I would have gone for it on the hatches but not on the solid white like the other guy did as thats mental!!
in then end, the guy has every right to drive like he wants and shouldn't expect someone to get mega angry because he's stuck behind a cyclist
but there is defo a touch of "i art holier than thou" going on
JJ
Id have overtaken on the solid lines IF visibility was good.in then end, the guy has every right to drive like he wants and shouldn't expect someone to get mega angry because he's stuck behind a cyclist

I think the highway cose states vehicles going less than 10mph or so.
In that clip cam car could have overtaken easily many times earlier.
Im all for careful driving but thats stupid.

I'll do it in slow-moving traffic but not when it's free-flowing and I'm turning right.
I'm guessing you've not heard of the 3 C's?
it ceases to be free flowing if you are turning right though as you will slow and have to make a much tighter tuen if you do not let the car out?I'm guessing you've not heard of the 3 C's?
as you slow to take the right, the car pulls out and you are able to soften your turn (without cutting) thus keeping the flow of traffic behind you more constant. the car is actually then gone before you would have made your turn anyway.... or am i missing something here?
JJ
yeah - got that....
BUT thats only if no one else is courteous
its not about courtesy, its about common sense.
stopping because an old man is stood on the pavement doesn't work, spotting a car pulling out of a turning that you are going to pull into is not confusing - it benefits both drivers.
i find it frustrating of i'm waiting to pull out, there is a car approaching from the left and clear from the right.
car from left indicates only 10m from the turning, parks across the front of my car waiting to pull in as there is a car now approaching from the right. Early indication would have allowed me to pull out safely.
similarly when waiting and the car coming from the right only indicates to pull into your turning at the last minute or doesn't indicate at all so i'm just sat there like a lemon. same applies to mini roundabouts.
courtesy towards others and awareness of whats actually going on around you creates a better driving environment all round

Good vid but not entirely correct about the white line me thinks
HC rule 129
Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.
Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10 & 26
So does this apply to the single white line with chevrons in, and a single on the other side so apart from the chevrons, its double white lines?

Rule 130
Areas of white diagonal stripes or chevrons painted on the road. These are to separate traffic lanes or to protect traffic turning right.
If the area is bordered by a broken white line, you should not enter the area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so.
If the area is marked with chevrons and bordered by solid white lines you MUST NOT enter it except in an emergency.
Laws MT(E&W)R regs 5, 9, 10 & 16, MT(S)R regs 4, 8, 9 & 14, RTA sect 36 & TSRGD 10 (1)
