Perhaps the Honda braked for a genuine reason. If so, who would have been acting dangerously - surely the L3-hogging tailgater?
True, but it looks like a brake check to me! Hard on pedal just after DCW flashed him, then completely off.

Is this dangerous or am I being a snowflake?
DCW in wrong lane for first half of clip- inconsiderate, not dangerous.
DCW then gets upset when as a result of being in wrong lane someone passes him on the left and flashes lights- stupid, but not in itself dangerous.
Other guy braketests DCW- now that IS dangerous, regardless of obvious provocation.

So- two plonkers met. Howzat?
This. Cam Car was sat with clear lanes to the left and sped up as soon as the Honda indicated. I get that in this kind of traffic people don’t like to move left as the outside ebbs and flows as it goes past the slower traffic. But speeding up and putting lights on full whack when being undertaken is just inviting stupidity. Back off a bit, let it go, and get on with your journey.

the dashcam car has to accept some of the responsibility for creating the situation.

I pass on the left almost everyday on my commute. The number of drivers who will not use an empty lane to their left is staggering.

Civic was completely in the wrong for brake checking, however I agree with the cam car. What purpose did it serve to flash their lights? Just ease off slightly (I doubt they would need to brake) and carry on thinking knob in your head if you think you need to.

People seem to hate letting others pull in front of them when driving.

Agreed. No issue with the undertaking, but should have waited for a decent gap to join lane three. Slamming his brakes on made him a complete wker.

The amusing thing for all the aggro is that when you pull off at your junction you’ll likely bunch up with all the cars a few minutes either side of you. I’m a reformed road-rager - I just don’t engage now and my driving life has become so much simpler.

DCW had to brake since they accelerated from 66 to 74 to close the gap.

Nothing wrong with the Civic's behaviour up to the brake check. Stuff like that happens all day, every day on the M25. Heavy taffic. Lots of people sat in the right lane, less in the others. Different traffic speeds cause intended and un-itended passing on the left. People move lanes into gaps which are not optimal.

DCW 'started' it with the door shutting and the flash - they shouldn't have. Civic was a knob for the brake check - they shouldn't have.

Who gives a st? (Other than the fact that I bothered to post the above!).

Guessing Civic in lane 3, moves to lane 2 approaching junction (because everyone is so slow).

Then surprise there a car in lane 2, need to get back in lane 3.

At the beginning of the clip camera car is braking distance behind the car in front, where do you want him to go.

I just see the usual rush hour fare at the start - L3 is full of frustrated people who want to go faster than the car in front. Leave a decent gap and someone gets in it (a la video).

DCW shouldn't have got so close, Civic shouldn't have braked.

Looked like undertaking to me, although not surprising as DCW is needlessly in L3 so could/should have moved over.

How about lane 1 or 2?

He was in lane 3 for 19 seconds on the clip before we saw the civic, at an average of 70mph he covered 0.4 of a mile when he didn’t need to be in that lane at all, should have moved over.

Civic shouldn’t have brake checked; stupid cars thing to do. It was a reaction to being flashed, which the cam car shouldn’t have done.

Simple as that. 2 idiots trying to out-idiot each other.

Wtf! Why is DCW so aggressive about letting people get “one ahead” ? Sums up perfectly driving in the South East in my experience. Hang back, chill out. Don’t leave a massive gap then if you don’t want someone to drive into it. Civic is an idiot also for unnecessarily braking, but I can totally see why he did it, e.g. to say : “back off!”

You never get people passing you on the left if you follow the highway code and only use the "overtaking lanes" when overtaking.

Having said that, anyone who does a brake test is a dangerous moron.

Lane discipline is hopeless in this country, and I really think we should swap to the US system of passing on either side.

Catch-22 though isn't it?

You get into L3 wanting to pass the slower traffic in front, who are all waiting for the slow traffic in front of them. L2 and L1 start emptying, but with enough slow traffic that if you do move into L1/2 you'll end up getting blocked in by everyone else in L3 as they try to maintain their waiting-for-the-next-guy thing.

Round and round it goes.

No.

There should be tougher penalties for anyone caught lane hogging, simple as that really.

I dare say they'd make a lot more money if they fined everyone spotted lane hogging than setting up speed traps.
