My dad has one of these which me and the wife took to France a few years ago for 2 weeks (somehow managed to pack 2 weeks into the boot with the roof down! Utilizing all space in the front and behind the seats) and it was great to pop the roof down.

My old man wanted a folding hard top for the benefit of having both hard top and convertible and it really works well in this. Its only on about 40k miles as well and had been looked after the 1st owner very well.

I don't cut hair hehe

I think we may be taking it down to cornwall this year too, time to get a burnt head again...

Wouldn't even touch one of these with your mates-cousins-brothers barge pole.

The only redeeming feature I've found was the option of warm air blower for your neck.

Otherwise. Dull. Rusty. Uninspired.

Made a note of the word 'thrunge'. I want to use it more often in daily conversation.

Hi PH, long time lurker, first time poster!

Loads of info and spares on the web, it starts, goes and has an MOT so cant be that bad for someone with some spannering skills.

Buy it, fix it up, run it and then move it on and make a few quid.

I just had to look it up - not sure how one would use it in polite conversation though!

Damn.. Shed knows how to make you feel old frown

I remember someone rolling up at the pub and showing off the snazzy folding roof (which was damn cool in them days!)... and that was an early model too.

Unfortunately, it appears that the registration R170 SLK is not registered to a Mercedes.

To anyone tempted; I implore you, please don't do it!

Rust, bad electrics, numb steering, ste gearbox, central locking with a mind of its own, poor quality interior materials, the list goes on. Never never never never never again!

If the seller just pulled his finger out his a**e he could get a few jobs done and ask a bit more money for it!

These haven't aged too well (in looks or body work). That said, it was a decent car and the 320 was a joy to drive. Then of course there was the 32! Not driven one, but having owned every 55 after (each heavily modified for extra power and noise) I sure would like to.

Edgy, original humour at it's best. He's clearly a comedian at the very top of his game.

Another point to mention is that for those of us slightly on the lanky side, the SLK affords much more room in the driving position than most of its rivals. Z3/4, Boxster, MX5, early TT, etc are all a bit of a no-no for me, but I can quite comfortably fit in the Merc

Actually, is an SLK32 now the cheapest way into an AMG? Must go and check the classifieds

W208 CLK55 AMG is probably the cheapest. Saw one late last year going for £4k.

Wow, hadn't realised they'd gone so low! Although I'm not sure I'd like to see what a £4k one looked like biggrin

Think I may have been wrong on the SLK32: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/m...

Wife's ran one for 11years. Rust is now evident around the front arches.car cost £24000 when we bought it. It has never broken down.replaced about 3 batteries.broken suspension spring.abs sensor twice.ive never changed spark plugs air filter and only done 2 oil changes and still going strong.wife loves it to bits.i keep saying to get rid as it's £300 road tax and low 20's to the gallon in the town.plus side it's quite quick 0-60 supposed to be 7.2 secs.mercedes tested roof 10 thousand times approx to 10 years frequent use.so roofs are rarely a problem .id say to get one for a grand is a bargain.
You bought a car for £24k and in 11 years you only changed the oil twice? OK, so you're selling us the virtues of it being robust, but all I can focus on is the fact you spent £24k and then went on to gamble that money with a total lack of maintenance! Oh how the other half live.

surely ABS light on = MOT fail (and no light during ignition switch on test also = fail so no sneaky wire cutting..)?
Current ticket expires Sep 17 so you'd get 1 summer from it I suppose.

Sensible MOT testers will pass a car even though the ABS light is on if their mechanics have previously/regularly attempted to 'solve the problem' at the owner's request, and found that there is no problem.
