I was thinking of getting an mr2 for summer but all the horror stories put me off (snap oversteer) the turbo version.
Yes I've died many times in all 4 of my mr2's.

Strictly speaking (the best sort of speaking... tongue out), isn't it a bonnet outlet? It's shaped to induce low pressure above the grill, sucking air out of the engine bay and by doing so pulling air through the front mount radiators. Unlike the Subaru units the intercooler on top of the engine is a water / water unit, not air / water.

The little circular hole *cough* machine gun port *cough* provides a cold air feed to the aux belts and alternator which are working away on the left hand side of the engine block. It's also bang in the centre of your field of view when driving the RHD car, so part of the defining experience of driving a GT-FOUR is dakka-dakka-dakka-ing the slow car in front with your imaginary machine gun. smile

Ah yes the air intake nozzle for the belts, it is bang in the middle of your view, it is like having a targeting system for apex's in a head up display haha.

Although it leads to a funnel which ultimately will channel the air onto the belts, on road going cars that funnel is blocked. :-(

I still think this gen of Celica is a cracking looking thing. I've overlooked them a couple of times in the past, can't recall why.

I hate to say it though, I think I'd save a bit longer for an E46 M3..

Just a minor point but, the Celica uses a air>water chargecooler and the Subaru is air>air. smile

I have long said these are undervalued, it was a contemporary of the Escort Cosworth and Lancia Delta Integrale, it shared Rally Stages and Arcade Cabinets.

They are all great int heir own ways but I just cant reconcile where one, the Celica has been banger money for a long time, I know this one is up at a respectable price, though way behind its mates, they have been a lot cheaper in reality.

It is like three guys in a 90s boy band, two went on to big solo careers and one is on the pub circuit.

The other two are 35 grand an up, were the other two really five or six times the car ? I think the reality is these are undervalued and the rest have gone daft, but its nice that mortals can still get some 90s Rally goodness for sensible money so perhaps shouldn't complain.

Unless you're part of a rally team, activating anti lag system is a good way to kill your turbo quickly!

If you want to pat yourself on the back for activating something, then just re-enable the water sprayers and modify the water injection system to spray NO2 instead. nuts

Easiest and simplest system is mild anti lag by ignition retard...

Pretty fair analysis.

To me it has been standing out like a sore thumb that these cars have been too cheap for too long.

In June 2015 I put my money where my mouth is and stumped up the cash to buy a 1995 UK Celica GT4 WRC.

It was in fact the car that was featured on PH as the PH Carpool car in February 2013.

It has been a great car to own and drive.

I have owned 3 cars prior to mine since 2011, a 350z, VX220 and an R33 - ownership of those was under a year each time (although all 3 were super cars!) but my Celica is really sticking on me.

Very rare, tonnes of performance and some real actual practicality.

I've always liked these, are parts for the Superstrut front suspension still really expensive though? My wife had a Celica TRD Sports M (featured in carpool years ago) which had the same set up.

Mine did actually nearly kill me if that counts. Something in the rear suspension broke and sent me flying across the road into a sign post.(off boost on a straight road)

My ST185 GT-Four was just st. Still loved it though!biggrin

Ouch! I know someone on IMOC who had a rear tie rod snap. Scary stuff.

As you're alive hopefully any injuries weren't too serious... hate the thought of a mechanical failure sending me into some road furniture and there being nothing I can do to stop it frown
