I don't like the RF.... i think Mazda should have just done a coupe MX5 like a lot of people have wanted and be done with it. A coupe and a Convertible would do the car justice. Have two different types of convertible for the same car is just an odd decision?

I kind of agree - in the main photo in the article you can see exactly how a coupe would look; it kind of reminds me of my old Z4 Coupe, but as it is, the buttresses and the flat boot lid look clumsy together.

Doesn't look good IMO, the regular convertible is much better. It makes it too tall look, as if someone took a widescreen image and squished it to fit an old fashioned 4:3 ratio.

I really dislike the styling of the new MX-5. I'm sure it's a great car but I think it looks terrible

I agree that it can be slightly awkward from certain angles but overall I really really like the look of both this and the regular convertible. I'd like to own the normal car but sadly they didn't spec it with an autobox option, so this one will have to do.

In short. No.

The roof line is way too high. Looks like something Noddy would drive.

Law of comparisons says that in the first instance like should be compared with like. Struggling to think of a nicer looking Targa. Way better resolved than a contemporary 911. 488 edges it perhaps, but the little Mazda stacks up well to my eyes.

I was wondering what it is about the change in our culture over the last 30 years that has lead from the happy, friendly 'face' of the Mk1 MX5 to the ridiculous snarling angry eyes face of the current model. It's not just the MX5 of course, more and more car manufacturers (presumably in response to car buyers) seem to favour this sort of design. Is it because people feel so insecure in life now that they need to be assertive through the styling of their car??

For my part I think the happy face of the Mk1 was miles better.

I think you read too much into it - it's nothing more than fashion. I think there is no difference in insecurity then and now.

I haven't seen one in the metal yet but in the photo's it looks horrible. Not sure why they didn't stick to the folding hard top from the mk3/3.5 because it was a nice simple design that worked well. This seems like style for styles sake and that's not what the MX5 is about.

I don't understand why more cars aren't made in this style. Much better looking than a convertible.

Needs a proper engine though

I saw my first one today. I'd have it over the roadster.

No it isn't im afraid. I'm sure it's a blast to drive but the proportions are all wrong. Don't like the Fiat either.

Ugly. Looks like an offspring of a RX8 and a BMW Z4 conceived up against the Eurobins outside Spanglezzz nightclub.

They've tried too hard.

I haven't seen one yet; it's very hard to get a good idea from pictures.

Same here, and agree seeing things in the flesh often are much more... or less.. pleasing to the eye.. But, I can't help thinking they've made an arse of the rear half of it...
