Black wheels - am I wrong?
Discussion
The Team Dynamics alloy wheels that are on my speedster are black. I prefer them to the standard silver wheels.
My other car came with the standard alloy wheels repainted in anthracite. I think it works well but feel it's no better or worse than silver on this particular car.
Generally I agree with a previous poster who said the car should have some sporting credentials to pull off the dark coloured wheel look.

If you want your car to look like it has no wheels or gets top dollar as a taxi, then black/dark wheels are ftw!
Or maybe you've managed to pull off the murdered out look and know when to stop.
Or perhaps you carry a rag around with you to clean the wheels at most opportunities (Like I did with my ProDrive Brera- which as long as I kept on top of it, looked ok, but what a ballache)
Otherwise black wheel are a fad and a dreadful aesthetic mistake in the same vein as the 3 spoke alloy wheel in the late 80's early 90's (I recognise that Saab and Citroen did 3 spoke well...I'm looking at the fashionable after market trend..)
Brake dust makes things worse IMO, its true that on a bright alloy brake dust shows up like coal in the snow, but you still have a wheel design and distinction between tyre and wheel. With a dark rim you just have a solid featureless black mass. How much did those rims cost? who cares? you can't see them?!
Can't see the brake dust? don't clean it off....oh your alloys will be buggered up even quicker than before.
Matt and satin finishes also boil my piss....you could steal the wheels at night and the owner would get in not knowing anything about it, or alternatively leave your car parked up at night and come back to it, and have to check each corner every time...
You'd be better off getting a steel wheel and wheel trims, the design would be just as attractive (invisible) and you wouldn't have to worry about curb damage.
A well designed wheel can enhance a car...wheel have a favourite design... which all becomes pointless if you can't distinguish it from the tyre or black space in the arches.
It's a truly god awful idea which I hope will soon die.
I've never known anyone to get so irate about something so subjective. I remember having this argument with you last time. Why it seems to bother you so much, i really don't know.Or maybe you've managed to pull off the murdered out look and know when to stop.

I'm sure he's got a smart-arse response ready and waiting in the chamber for us though
Apologies for the crap quality - John Lennon's all black Radford Cooper S in December '66, black everything including wheels, bumpers and glass...
Apparently the only splash of colour anywhere on the car was the red background to the 'Austin Cooper' bonnet badge. I've got a second set of Mk3 Cosmics waiting to be refurbished to go on my Cooper S, I'm tempted to have one of them painted black just to see how it turns out, it's only paint afterall.

Can't wait to read it. Always ready for the next laugh, even if it is at the afflicted! I can't imagine what it must take in mentality to get so irritated by someones choice of wheel colour. Heaveho said:

Fair enough. Eye of the beholder and all that. It is his/her car though.
I find some colour schemes that maybe appealing to some, bland and lacking in spirit or breaking from flock trends which are frequently whimsical, subjective and culturally in favour on a cyclical basis (brown cars were once a popular thing, white was once for microwaves).
Granted this contains contradiction, as the owners of popular, safe choices such as red with silver wheels, naturally like those colours. But, I admire free thinkers who won’t be constrained by the herd in their perception of aesthetics.
This car wouldn’t be my top personal choice (mines speed yellow with black wheels- came like that your honour). I do personally like it for those reasons and I can see the owner obviously does.
Didn't realise I'd split opinion so much! Glad I've got something a little different and I still find myself turning around to stare so that can only be a good thing I guess I find some colour schemes that maybe appealing to some, bland and lacking in spirit or breaking from flock trends which are frequently whimsical, subjective and culturally in favour on a cyclical basis (brown cars were once a popular thing, white was once for microwaves).

Quickmoose will be pointing out that it wasn't just the owner that got " murdered out ".Apparently the only splash of colour anywhere on the car was the red background to the 'Austin Cooper' bonnet badge. Standard GTS darkened.
Same sort of thing at the front, dependent slightly on the lights you option.
It’s part of why I left the standard satin black wheels, as it all sort of blends in / matches.
Ah ok, didn't know that, cheers. Not keen on the lights to be honest, but if that's the way it is, so be it. Nice car, regardless.Same sort of thing at the front, dependent slightly on the lights you option.

Car looks great in spite of the wheels. Bronze would be a better choice or just the standard silver.Same sort of thing at the front, dependent slightly on the lights you option.
