I stand corrected, I misread. Looked it up, seems Seat UK killed the ST DSG fwd in favour of the 4drive, what a shame.
Edit: In Germany (and I assume rest of Europe) it is still available.
I did see it was still on the German configurator (I wanted to look at the PP!)Edit: In Germany (and I assume rest of Europe) it is still available.

that is one mundane looking vehicle
For a car that fits a whole family, is quicker than most cars actually on the road and doesn't cost a small fortune, I think it has a rather nice design. Of course no comparison to a low slung coupe, compared to that it goes completely unnoticed. Which is quite nice for a change, debadged it's a real sleeper. underphil said:

Yes we get your point, so what else with this performance, price and space should one buy to keep awake and all smug about oneself? And quite true, that is why I had to get the Performance Pack the red four pot brembos that completely fill up my 18" wheels, a clear visual hint to petrolheads as myself everytime I see it that it actually IS something special.

Negatives
- It's too close in price to the R, given it will depreciate quickly
Just read on the seat forum that apparently, a base 4drive at broker sites goes for 26k... still a negative?- It's too close in price to the R, given it will depreciate quickly

The difference is more like £4k once you spec the golf to the same level, having owned a 280 dsg st from new and trading it in at 10 months old for £10k less than list with 6k miles I think it would be cheaper to lease one, its still sat on the dealers pitch and I got shut last july.

That's a great price no doubt! How much is the Golf R estate through the same broker though? I had a quick look at Broadspeed and DTD and the difference after discounts between the 2 was about £2K.

Probably, but not many people pay list price with savings of £5k through brokers and Seat dealers happy to discount. Out of interest, what made you trade in after just 10 months?
Mrs dwol passed her test so bought a fiesta black edition and a kuga titanium for less a month than what the leon was on its own, would recommend one to anyone only annoying thing was its lack of traction which is fixed with the 4drive.

Well i've taken the plunge and signed the lease paperwork this morning.
Mystery Blue, DSG. 4WD ST.
I took the delow car out last weekend for a good long drive. the car only had 70 miles on the clock, delivery millage i was told so i was the first 'customer' to get a go in it. the car was standard spec bar the sunroof.
Overall drive was very good. the car felt very solid and competent. I like in eco mode its a lot quieter, (need to try and rename that to wife mode). I also test drove an Audi S3, Golf R estate and Hatchback and a Skoda VRS Estate.
Out of the lot the Audi was the nicest, the Golf Hatchback was the most fun and the Skoda was a really nice car but was lacking 70hp so you have to bare that in mind. I chose the Leon over the others as it represented a good middle ground between the Audi for fit and finish and pure fun from the Golf Hatchback.
Standard seats are nice and comparable to my Current Scirocco, I would have opted for Buckets but i am leasing this car and buckets added £38 per month....
All in all im looking forward to it. 12 week lead time on a Mystery Blue car so it going to be a long 3 months....
Cheers.

Demo came from Poole Seat, i had requested a number of demos at Salisbury but Poole wouldn't release the car so i drove down there myself.
Lease wise - went with Wessex Fleet as there were more competitive than Seat. Seat initially gave me a cheaper cost per month but it didn't include road tax etc which in the end meant it was about £16 more expensive per month.
I'm on 15,000 miles a year so its not a 'cheap' lease, but its still better than the PCP i had on my scirocco and i'll i'm doing is handing it back...

Long term lurker on these boards but never posted until now as looking for some advice.
Anyway, I'm really interested in this car and about to pull the trigger. I know most reviews say the price is too close to the Golf R but the discounts I am finding make this almost £7k cheaper than the Golf when options are specified the same. For this price, is there any reason why I should not be choosing this car over the R?
