Purely because it hasn't been mentioned yet, I think you should hammer frozen sausages in to the neighbour's (presumably pristine) lawn.

I couldn't give a toss what my neighbours think of my car.

The "Business not doing well?" comment could be an attempted joke but it's pretty fking rude if not.

I was working on the RX-7 in my garage one day when my neighbour invited himself in (our garage comes out onto the street at the end of his garden). He started blithering on about how he could never do anything like this ..meaning the work on the car.

"It's not that complicated," I said. "You were a mechanic before you retired, after all. Things haven't changed that much"

"Oh no," he says. "Today is Sunday, the Lord's day. It's a day of rest. You shouldn't be doing any work today"

Our relationship took a slight downwards turn when I pointed out that a) it was my only day off and therefore if I wanted it done, it had to be done today and b) if he took himself the fk out of my garage he wouldn't be able to see it and therefore oughtn't upset him any more.

Bloody new fangled religions

Neighbours. Try to be civil, but sometimes the only solution is a well-applied fk off
You do sound a bit touchy, should have just pointed out "The Sabbath" was yesterday.

I find attack moles indiscriminate in who's lawn they deface. And difficult to coral after their work is done.

No due to house prices we live in a poorer part of town where a lot of people on my street are council.
Wonderful mental gymnastics.
It's a fact.
It's true in some parts of London. You get this weird bimodal distribution of residents where you are either needy / deprived enough to get a council flat, or you can afford to buy / rent one in the non-subsidised market. Your average London earner looking for a £2-400k place falls into neither category.

Difficult? I'd say it was nigh on impossible to get them out to the Great Barrier Reef to drown them! wink

No. biggrin
This is the only sort of neighbours you need. The further they are the better.
My nearest neighbours are about 2 miles away. In spite of this (or maybe because of this) I'm like them and do care what they think. They however also like me and care what I think so would never criticise my car choice.

Exactly and you should stop worrying about cars - and stop pretending you have a property portfolio and a collection of supercars - you probably haven't got a pot to piss in but no one actually cares - you're just projecting your own (perceived) failure in life. There's more to life than money so you may have been very successful in other areas.

If I got this all wrong, I suspect it's custard time although you've already ignored past requests I believe.

As for lease, for the 236898th time : as it's heavily yield managed and therefore happens to occasionally be cheaper than cash, so why not (if you're intelligent) ?

It seems you care. You need to seek advice on jealousy and envy. You are probably the neighbour in question. Please stop following me. Ive already ignored the others.

Ignore my posts if you can't deal with the way your life has turned out.

He's hardly following you, it's just that it's rather hard to avoid your delusional ramblings all over the forum, usually about how stupid everybody else in the world is or ridiculous assertions about supercar ownership !

As for the OP's neighbour he sounds a bit like Audemars in that he enjoys self affirmation at the expense of others.

When I decide to change my car it will be based on what I decide to buy rather than what the neighbours might think. I couldn't care less if they thought I was doing well or not, it's none of their business.

I can't ever recall having a conversation with any neighbour about my car or theirs. My car is 10 years old, which is about average in my street. There are a few cars a bit older than that, a few others that are 3 or 4years old and elderly neighbours that don't have cars at all.

I once did this to annoy my neighbour after she called my Defender an eye sore, then made a point of parking it where she could always see it, every time I saw her and she would open her mouth to complain I would just say
"Colour is still lovely on this car isn't it, anyway have a good day now"

Should have seen the day I had that parked outside my house and my Defender in 400 different colours hehe

I can't say I really care what they think, hence driving a 170,000 mile e30 bmw. Although was very consous of trying not to make too much noise in my old Impreza, wasn't too fused about the image of the car just didn't want to piss people off with the stupid big exhaust.

Most of my neighbours don't really seam at all interested in cars other than the people a couple of doors down who have some nice cars.

Not so much neighbours, but I've taken plenty of st in the last week after handing back my leased Mercedes c250 coupe and replaced with a 2002 mx5 svt.

It's not because I can't afford the lease, it's that I don't WANT to afford it. There's something nice about being able to drive something that you can afford the worst outcome regardless of whether the engine blows up or you put it into a wall. I'm also going for a far bigger mortgage and being self employed, banks hate me enough as it is..

I'm enjoying the new freedom! If people think that things are going badly, then you no longer have to live up to any expectations. I can also turbo my mx5..

If folk have something positive to say then it's always welcome but I don't care what anyone thinks and won't let that influence any car I want.

Here in wrinkly drive, I think they have given up on me. Parked in the road at the mo' is the P38, the bright yellow '56 GMC van that everyone seems to love, and the V8 Excel. The school kids all stop by my place and look at the cars and my Quasar (the Lego bike they call it!) - oh and the gargoyle on the garage roof. So if the various cars/bikes give pleasure to the young kids, that is good. Plus if I am around a chance to chat up the acompanying MILFs!

You would not believe the number of people who thought I was loaded when I bought a Porsche. It was a 15 year old 924S that I bought for 3K. Some people just see the badge.

Only thing that concerns me regarding neighbours is noisy exhausts, as on my current Clio 200. My dad (fortunately for everyone) has no nearby neighbours. Good job, due to the multiple saloon and single seater race cars. At least he has a garage now - in the late 70's he had five NSU TT rally cars parked outside on the road.

When I lived in Cambridge I did have a neighbour constantly report my Innocenti 120L (think Mini Cooper with a hatchback body) as abandoned. She kept complaining it was brought Ning down property prices. It was a shed though!

I am unbothered what neighbours think. Although that being said, all my neighbours are nice, polite people. And all of them seem to like this car anyway thumbup
