RE: Jaguar F-Type V8 S: Spotted
Discussion
How very strange I picked up my lunar grey V8s with red leather only yesterday from Guy Salmon in Thames ditton.
Amazing car, the whole theatre of it puts a grin on my face like nothing else!
Plus the weight is 1650kgs and you don't know it because it's really tight and responsive. And I own a Noble m12 so I do know what decent handling feels like!

Dunno why people keep banging on about the weight. It's not like you have to physically lift it. If it feels light on its feet it really doesn't matter. I've driven light cars that feel heavy and heavy cars that feel light. I know what I prefer...
As a side note, 50% depreciation in 4 years is better than average isn't it?

Can't imagine how anyone would want one of these in a 4 cylinder. The current charachterful engines are what keeps this fighting the Boxster and Cayman.
Unfortunately i can . A lot of f types that are coming to the second hand market are low spec 340 bhp models without the noisy exhaust option . I presume these were bought by people that have never been anywhere near the cars limits and have only bought one for its looks . Almost every one i pass has the exhaust in quiet mode and is being driven by someone that drives like my mum who is in her 70s.r1monkey said:
I am waiting for the cars to drop some more before i take the plunge.
I suspect Jaguar will release the 4 cylinder f type soon for around £39995 to avoid the new car tax rules .
That could really alter the values of the older cars as people hate paying road tax .(i know this from having an s2000 honda which is in the lower tax bracket .Which is actually worth more than some newer s2000s .)
Plus if they do release a 4 cylinder f type that starts at £40000 .It will still lose 50% value over 3 years which would mean 4 cylinder cars could be less than £20000 ,and cost less to tax than the 6 cylinder variants.
That plus rising fuel and insurance prices and the fact the car is a 2 seater rather than a 4 like the xk ,may also have a bearing on sales.
These are my reasons for holding off at the moment.
Europe only accounts for about 20% of Jaguar sales, not sure what percentage of that will be UK but unless they are already developing a 4 cylinder one i can't see them specifically doing so to cater for a small percentage of their market. The tax rules in all the countries of the world are so varied it's almost impossible for manufacturers to please everyone.I suspect Jaguar will release the 4 cylinder f type soon for around £39995 to avoid the new car tax rules .

Perhaps they didn't spec the active exhaust as it doesn't add anything to the cars performance and gets annoying quickly. Maybe they drive it flat out on track days where it passes noise limits. Not everyone wants the pointless and less driveable V8. Exactly my point... Anyone who buys an f type as a drivers car would buy the 375 bhp model ,anyone that buys it to drive to and from the office and pose around town buys the 340 bhp one. The car tax and insurance are the same and the mpg difference is negligible between the two
I have tried the 500 bhp one too and agree that it is too much ,mainly due to having too many gears for the power available ... Fine if you want to leave it in auto but if you put it in manual gear selection you are always hitting the rev limiter in each gear because the revs rise so fast.

Wouldn't mind the V8 to replace my SLK55 at some point. One of the few decent alternatives.

Jags always look lovely when new, but age very quickly after just a year or two. The one in the photo looks fairly dated and tired already. And they wriggle like crazy in the damp and wet. Ahm oot.
