Ruddy hell they're a bit strong aren't they?!
Meant to post one of these earlier but they didn't have any in stock but I check the sold ones,

The original Velar, which is the name given to the pre-production Range Rover.

Priced one up to replace our Macan. Hmm... bit expensive for what you get. To keep it under 70k you really do need to go for a 4 pot but I am not spending that kind of money for a 4 banger!

They probably did it to keep the riff raff like me away biggrin

On a positive the interior looks great, way ahead of the Macan.

Still, wheezy LR or Macan Turbo PP... hmmm...

Isn't it though? I'm looking for used Macan S (petrol) and coming from a 3 Series that I pretty much optioned out when I bought it I'm a bit disappointed with the tech in the Porsche, pretty dated really. Still, nice cars though and it'll be interesting to see the first comparison reports when they arrive.

I recall looking at a Volvo a decade ago that had some sort of leather substitute. From memory it was OK.

I guess plastic seats were good enough for the original Range Rover?

Any pictures?
Clearly if the goal is to not use leather because some people don't like it, the non-leather interior is not going to be a substitute leather is it.

Initially I thought the Velar looked big for its intended class, near in size to the RRS rather than the Evoque and too big for my liking.

However the following great video of the car outside in the daylight gives a better perspective (with the designers and engineers) of the car IRL.

I really don't know. My only experience of this as I mentioned above was in a Volvo C30 some time ago.

The ideals weren't soft like fabric. They were more leather like.

I'll be interested to see this new non-leather interior first hand. I'm getting a bit bored with full leather. My old MGZT-T. Had half leather with Alcantara as the main seat materiel. It was pretty comfortable - especially in winter.

It's much better looking than the FPace that it has taken it's chassis from. The biggest risk of this model is that it damages sales and the general business of Jaguar's foray into the SUV segment?

Not many perhaps, but I bet loads will be leased at entry level spec.

Against the Macan Turbo you would want the P380 so around £82k fully specced.

Will be interested to see what the quality of the interior is like as for me that's what really lets other JLR products (F-Pace, XF) down compared to their German rivals.
Although, (judging by the sales figures) it doesn't seem to matter to quite a lot of people, this, for me, is the crux.

Looking around JLR products, they seem to be using the same supplier for their lower rent plastics as they were back in the days of the Montego and Rover 200 etc. You can just 'tell'.

The F-Pace 'nearly' gets there, but the electric handbrake release, glovebox lid, sunglasses holder and flappy paddles are just woeful. The latter being particularly flimsy, they feel like they'd snap off if you got a bit rough with them.

You could forgive this in an entry level car, but Jag and Landrover don't present themselves as entry level. They are mid to top end, and cheap plastics just won't do for me if I'm forking out what JLR are asking. Porsche and Audi don't do it, so why does Jag?

And on the subject of flappy paddles, I see machined aluminium ones are an option on the config for the Velar, so the first signs aren't good.

I just went to the configurator and I would have a base, poverty, low bog, minimalist spec. I don't need big wheels, privacy glass, fancy lights, sunroofs, any 'packs' of any description and would suffice with the 180 engine. It's a heavy SUV, I'm not racing it. Even got flat black paint. £45k done!

...only, I would probably buy a used normal Range Rover spec'd to the gills instead...

Just watched this video, and I nearly spat my tea out.

At 12:00 one of their electronic engineers is showing off the new touchscreen set up. He says 'there is no need anymore to flick through menus, everything is at your fingertips', but while he's saying that, his hand is shown FLICKING THROUGH fkING MENUS - to put the heated seats on.

Sorry, but if that's the case - no deal.

They should take the bullst bingo away from the adverts, especially the tired old "story". Just let the pictures and some nice music sell it.
