Just watched this video, and I nearly spat my tea out.
At 12:00 one of their electronic engineers is showing off the new touchscreen set up. He says 'there is no need anymore to flick through menus, everything is at your fingertips', but while he's saying that, his hand is shown FLICKING THROUGH fkING MENUS - to put the heated seats on.
Sorry, but if that's the case - no deal.
Hysterical bh hyperbole or straight lies, not for me to decide but he presses 2 "buttons".At 12:00 one of their electronic engineers is showing off the new touchscreen set up. The entry price is like clickbate,I wonder how many £45k Velars will be sold?
I just went to the configurator and I would have a base, poverty, low bog, minimalist spec. I don't need big wheels, privacy glass, fancy lights, sunroofs, any 'packs' of any description and would suffice with the 180 engine. It's a heavy SUV, I'm not racing it. Even got flat black paint. £45k done! ...only, I would probably buy a used normal Range Rover spec'd to the gills instead...

In the new Panamera you have to wade through the system to move the electrically controlled air vents. How fecking stupid is that?At 12:00 one of their electronic engineers is showing off the new touchscreen set up. However the following great video of the car outside in the daylight gives a better perspective (with the designers and engineers) of the car IRL.

So you're driving down the road and want to direct a bit more air towards your face. You happy with taking your eyes off the road while you tap your way through an on-screen menu to achieve that are you....?Ridiculous overkill.

That's the answer to the question no one asked....Ridiculous overkill.

I stand corrected! Cunning..
It is a baffling one. Selecting a menu, then holding buttons down trying to feel if the air is now being blown in the preferred direction just seems such a backward step from just reaching out and moving the vent manually and done with it. I really feel this sort of thing falls into the category of 'just because you can, doesn't mean you need to'.
Because we touch glass to operate our phones and tablets, the car manufacturers think we crave touching a flat surface in our cars as well, even to the point of making the thing stick up out of the dash like some kind of 'look at me - I'm modern' statement.
They forget that the primary function of the human in a car is being in control of it while it's in motion. Touchscreens are not compatible with this requirement, and while the government is telling us not to be distracted by hand held devices whilst driving, car manufacturers are saying 'get unnecessarily distracted by this instead' - and are getting away with it.
It's a ludicrous situation.

I had a Macan for 24hrs a few weeks ago with a touchscreen and really didn't like it. I tried fiddling with it whilst on the motorway and found myself drifting so left it well alone after that. I'm used to my iDrive and the eyeline of the display which means I can keep one eye on the road without looking down and prodding and pressing things. I dare say you could used to it but as a first introduction I wasn't wild about it.

This was my view of the Tesla set up when I drive it. I just couldn't see the benefit of removing tactile switch gear that you never needed to take your eyes off the road to use perfectly easily to screens where you have to use one hand to hold your other hand steady down a bumpy road and look at the screen the whole time. I really thought it was crazy and yet it would appear to be the way more are going. They forget that the primary function of the human in a car is being in control of it while it's in motion.
