Can someone check how the heated seats are turned on - this seems to be the major gripe people have with current JLR products, that they have to go into a sub menu! of all things holy! I need warm bottom, IMMEDIATELY
On my 2016 R-R instead of turning the heating control knob you press it inwards and then turn it which activates the seat heating, a faster hot bottom results! So, it has an active rear diff. What is it? Is it some types of LSD, so it will lock itself when one of the rear wheels starts to slip? Or is it some kinds of electronic traction control unit for the rear axle?
The article mentioned about the rear diff in one sentence but how about the centre diff? Surely the centre diff is the more important one...

Will be interesting to see how the 2L basic engine holds up in this car, although it should be a bit lighter than a typical RR - have they said what the total weight will be?
It's £9k extra to go to the D240 from the D180. That's a lot for a second turbo.Any yet it's only £4k more than the D240 to go to the D300 v6 diesel.

They all have an active centre diff, which is a plate type locking diff that's controlled electronically (with actuators on the clutch plates) and the option active rear diff is effectively the same, and is an electrically actuated LSD (where the ramps are replaced with an actuator that can lock and unlock the diff depending on the driving situation). The article mentioned about the rear diff in one sentence but how about the centre diff? Who's going to buy a RRS now that this is available? - a much nicer looking car in my opinion.

Just had that conversation with a friend who owns a RRS and there are a couple of things that this doesn't have and cant be specced. Low range and seven seats. OK that's a very narrow market but he needs both. Will be interesting to see how the 2L basic engine holds up in this car, although it should be a bit lighter than a typical RR - have they said what the total weight will be?

And ultimately, the Sport is still effectively a Full Fat Range Rover on the Full Fat chassis. That matters to quite a few people!RacerMike said:

love the exterior, dont like the interior. find the flat screens too much - just want one and then some buttons.
makes all other cars look dated though - cant imagine anyone would want a sport now over this?
hate the eco interior materials but can easily spec leather.
they'll sell loads

Engines look a bit dissapointing. No 5.0 sc or hybrid?
The 3.0sc petrol motor which is good in an f-type doesnt have bottom end torque for this application which leaves the 3.0 diesel.....meh.
£85k for the first edition is a bit steep and the bottom end ones dont look right without the big wheels.
Mixed bag packaging wise then which is a shame cos overall its a fantastic looking thing inside and out.

We must be reaching the point the owners hedge themselves and move some production abroad.
There are a number of JLR guys spending quite a lot of time travelling to Austria... PhantomPH said:

I've just specced one up on the RR site for £108,661.00
Speccing up a Velar vs RRS, virtually the same price with the same options/engines. How can Pistonheads say it fills "white space" in the range. The Velar looks better also.ETS: "Same level" is that basically I chose the same colour, wheels and options that I would put on any LR product (including the Evoques I have spec'd before). The engine was mid-range diesel to give the same on paper performance as the RRS.
...so on a similar note, expect the Full-Fat to go upmarket a little more again, with more emphasis on customisation.

Shame the towing weight is only 2500kgs. But it looks good and sounds great on paper. It'll sell loads.
If it had a 600Hp engine it would still only tow 2,500kg as that is it's max GVW. In other words any vehicle is only allowed to tow its own weight. From trailer hitch backwards must not weigh more than from the trailer hitch forwards for simplicity.Same for any non LGV vehicle.
What it can physically pull is another matter altogether.

I'm not a big fan of SUVs, and have never really found Range Rovers, etc, at all interesting or attractive, but I have to admit that's definitely one of the better looking ones of the market
One criticism though - too many touch screens controls! Very flexible and ideal for things like media, but it looks like a fair portion of the the controls for the climate system would need you to look down to operate them.
