Learnt in my instructor's D-reg Toyota Corolla and practised and took my test in my Mum's white K11 Micra 1.0-16v (L46 TAP) in glorious L-base spec with no radio or rear wiper.

In 1986, in instructor's white Rover 213. (Half Rover, half Honda). I thought it was lovely. Failed first time in Wigan, passed second time in St Helens.

Instructor's Peugeot 107 - but it clearly wasn't a very memorable car as I can't think what the year or reg was! Don't think I've driven anything French since.

Perodua Nippa. Horrible car, couldn't move the seat far enough back so my legs would get stuck under the steering wheel.

Came pretty close to maxing it on an overtake once, top speed was 84mph.

I actually got marked down for failing to make sufficient progress on the test, as the mighty 850cc triple with 37 horse power, just wouldn't get going.

Several people have claimed they passed their tests in 1.9D Peugeot 205s. I wonder how many of these mythical beasts roamed the roads in the late 80s and early 90s? I was not aware that Peugeot fitted the 1905cc XUD9 to the 205. They used the 1769cc XUD7 with 60 bhp in N/A form.

The 1905cc XUD9 was fitted to the 309 making 65 bhp. In the 405 it made 70 bhp.
