Could not have had two more unlike cars at the time
I remember driving a Renault 16 after I'd previously only ever experienced Vauxhall/Ford/BL. The drive experience was amazing, so smooth.

I quite liked the Renault. It had a column gearchange which I preferred. Ride was smooth but it did roll too much.

One of these:

My driving instructor's Lada Riva.

This probably explains my ongoing love of rubbish cars.

Lime green Metro... 1.1 I think.
On the way back from the test centre I remmeber my instructor thrashing it through town and thinking he didn't drive like that when I was still a learner.

Took my first test in my 1966 Ford Cortina GT on the day after my 17th birthday, failed on not using mirrors enough and not checking for traffic at a T junction when entering a main road.

I'd never had any lessons but had been driving my yellow Reliant Van (way before Del Boy was invented), for the previous four months on a motorcycle licence and had been driving cars, vans and trucks for years on private land, (mostly), so was quite surprised to fail.

Went to an instructor and had two lessons, he observed that although I was using my eyes to check my mirrors and look at junctions I was not turning my head to make it obvious to the examiner.

Took my test in his pale blue 1965 Ford Anglia two weeks later and passed with no problem, been driving safely for just on fifty years now.

Mk7 Fiesta Ecoboost, the 125 BHP one as I was told many times by my middle aged lady instructor who appeared to be a bit of a closet petrolhead!
She love explaining to people how the tiny little 1.0L made so much power thanks to the wonders of turbocharging.
She also encouraged her students to drive it 'properly' in appropriate circumstances!

A 1.1 Pug 106 and it was bloody hard work. Not due to the lack of power steering but due to the pedals being bloody tiny.

My feet are a 13 so not ridiculous but when it came to the emergency stop, I braked, dipped the clutch correctly and the edge of my foot hit the throttle and revved the engine. Got a minor point for control but stopped the car fine and passed the test.

I drove a 106 Quicksilver about 5 years later and still found the pedals sh!t. I've driven/owned various other small hatches since and never had an issue.

All my lessons were in a 206 diesel, but on test day the 206 diesel was broken and the replacement car was a 206 petrol of some sort. I remember the clutch feeling very different to the diesel version, not what you want on test day really! Fortunately the test centre was 10 miles from my house which was enough time to adjust.

My instructors Kia Pride circa 1998, a truly hateful car.

I seem to recall it was purple.
Same here only white and 1994. To this day it's still the worst car I have driven and that includes the 1l nova I had as a first car, and the stbox fiesta I bought out of auction with 150k miles on it as a cheap runaround for a few months.

Something like this...

A 1986 ('C' plate) Nissan Sunny 4-door saloon. It was my instructors car, and she was a contracted civilian instructor at 56 MT Trg Sqn Royal Engineers at Church Crookham.
Same here - Sunny saloon D plate in silver; passed a few weeks after my 17th birthday as my Dad gave me an intensive course of driving lessons every day leading up to my test. The elation was short lived as after I passed he said I couldn't use the car! He went back abroad a week later to his work, and I then starting using the car with agreement of my Mum; I wrote it off soon after, and then bought an 1980 Polo for £150, and my Mum bought another Nissan with the insurance money.
