RE the Gear change - Lakeside engineering adjusted it as part of the (rather extensive!) work I had done. It's much tighter now, a little stiff even, but I'm sure that will ease off with use. It's not had the eliseparts bushes installed or anything, just the linkage adjusting...
As for the power, I wrote this while it was being overhauled, and since getting it back it's been dyno'd at 153bhp. The stock manifold and airbox are holding me back but I'm not in a hurry to unlock the extra 20hp just yet, as the torque delivery is taking some getting used to - practically peak torque at 3krpm, and it stays almost flat until around 6, which is a huge difference.

I nearly got one a few years back but opted for an S2000. My brother in law purchased a nearly new S2 tourer around the same time from a Lotus dealer. His Elise was always in the garage for various things. Coil pack problems, drivers side window constantly coming of the runners. bubbling paint. I love the idea of owning one but in reality I think I'd just get frustrated. Quality seems so hit and miss on these.

I think it depends more on the owner than the car. In ten years of use mine has never broken down, but it has suffered from the sorts of niggles which would drive some people mad.
