Aren't the GT3's a regular run Porsche model (within reason). So I assume they will make as many as they need to?
No, they're not built by the main factory and they are made on limited production runs. Google is your friend.
According to this http://press.porsche.com/news/release.php?id=1018 press release they are built on the same production line as all other 911s. Regardless of that, they should just make cars and sell them to customers. I went to Geneva to see the car, the press said it was not limited, the Porsche representatives on the stand said they were available to buy and I just had to call a dealer (which surprised me) but sure enough, there are none available. This limited release stuff is beyond annoying, The 911R nonsense followed by this means I'll never buy another Porsche.

Two factories for 911 production AFAIK; Zuffenhausen for mainline and Weissach for the GT cars.

Someone else may know better, but that's how it always used to be.

Until 2001. Since the 996.2 GT3 they have been assembled at Zuffenhausen.

There is even an episode of Megafactories focusing on the 997 GT3 being built on the same line as all of the other 911s.

Cheers. So is Weissach just for pure motorsport and development?

I'm not convinced its as bad as some people here are making out. I saw the article, called up the local dealer and asked about my chances. He reckon 50/50 so i have put down deposit.

I've had a couple of cars from them over the last three - four years and a couple of other porsches before from a different dealer but by no means have a long standing relationship with them. And i don't know the DP and there is certainly no fellatio going on.....

Will let you know how it progresses

And its got to be a manual!

This is so wrong!! Hideous looking thing, but...... at the very least it's based on a real 911 and will thus sound like a 911. Much better than any of those Pug 406 / MR2 dressed to look like a 355/360!
