The masses will think it is just a rebodied Megane though which is another reason it is unlikely to do well here.
I don't think they'll think that as it's not even a Renault as far as the masses are concerned. Besides it's not exactly aimed as a volume model...for the masses.

Time will tell but there are even some on PH who haven't realised that it's not FWD.

Most don't realise that it doesn't share engine or gearbox with an existing Renault.

I'm not sure what volumes they hope to achieve but l suspect the U.K. isnt a major target market.

Thanks a ton for the pictures, perfect! Nice and useful shape up front, and good to know a IATA trolley fits no problem. Space in total not huge, but certainly good enough for much more than a weekend away.

Good luck in Shanghai & thanks again smile.

That driveline will find its way into another mainstream FWD car, it wasn't developed specifically for the A110. There's no way it was.

Yes, of course, that is a given but there is a big difference between taking an existing platform and driveline, chopping this and that to squeeze a pretty body on, compared to what has been done here.

Maybe I've been taken in by the hype around this car or I just had such low expectations but to me, they have come up with a proper all new car.

Not diss'ing the car at all. I like it and I hope it gives Alfa & Porsche a bloody nose. Especially Porsche who gouge the Australian market...because they can. A new base model manual Cayman with zero options is GBP77k here!

Looks good and I like the lightweight ethos etc but the auto gearbox kills it for me.

Yep. They made a mistake there. But when you are installing a driveline mid-rear, doing crappy paddles, the link between the paddles and gearbox is electronic. If its a manual, you've got quite an engineering job to do to create a (quite long) gear linkage, and the punters are going to be brutal on you if it's a rubbish gear shift. Would have cost them quite a bit extra to engineer both a manual and crappy paddle options for a fairly low volume car. It spoils the 4C too...but then again, it's not the only thing that spoils the (quite disappointing IMHO) 4C.

It will doubtless be a killer for some - no matter how good the box is. However 80% or so of 718s will be PDK, so it's not necessarily a majority decision. But to succeed it will have to be up there with the PDK box, not the Clio one. There are plenty of Porsche owners (I'm one) who wouldn't normally touch an auto with a bargepole who have been seduced by how good PDK is.

I admit, i'm interested. But i'm unsure can i live with that box. Going from old manual sports car to brand new car with turbo+dtc driveline can be a little bit of... Clinical? Anyway, i need to go and test drive this thing. I love the look, heritage, look, weight, look, color, look and interior. And it looks so good too.

And PDK sales of the 718 is little bit of irrelevant. This is far more hardcore than 718 so i don't think that these cars are rivals.

To reserve one of the launch cars, you download the Alpine app where you are able to register your interest and make a reservation.

I registered the day the app went live and there were 195 UK cars. I didn't look at any other country.

Last night there were about 187. Interestingly, this morning there are only 48. Only about 6 cars that had gone up until last night so I doubt 140 have gone overnight. I suspect some of the UK allocation has been reallocated to either LHD or other RHD markets.

The figures are those that have come from the Alpine app but the re-allocation is my guess.

If there are only going to be 50-60 UK launch cars then I suspect they are going to be quite a rare sight.
I'm well aware of the app and how you reserve a car wink

Okay. I can now confirm as of this morning there were 8 UK cars still available. And the total allocation for the UK is 110 cars.

This came from Alpine as I asked them via email.

So seems they will indeed be a rare beast in these shores!

Far more hardcore? Not sure yet. Clearly aiming between the Elise/ Exige and 718 so clearly not as hardcore/impractical as the Loti (or 4C) and not as blingy as the 718, but possibly still a sensible everyday car for some (perhaps me) Remains to be seen where it comes in the hardcore/DD spectrum. Given that practically all super/hypercars now are flappy paddles those focussed on manuals are (inevitably) going to be marginalised - whether you like it or not.

Yeah, i think i used too strong word for sure. But i bet that this thing is little bit more cramped, noisier and demanding to live with. And doesn't have as nice interior as 718 and some poster will moan about it.

And i know that every super/hyper car has flappy paddles but i'm not totally sold on them yet. TBH Alfa 4c has been ruined with bad box and for me it does ruin the whole car. I really hope that Renault does things better and this thing is truly a fun car to drive. It sounds promising.

The app still allows you to put a deposit on any of 181 cars. These must all be U.K. RHD cars as all LHD are sold out.

I don't think there is any way to separate fact from fiction but I think we are all agreed we won't be seeing these on a daily basis.

So, the 181 left must clearly be Europe wide, as the UK allocation is now sold out.

Bugger.

Presumably then if you were to try and put a deposit down and you put your country as UK, the request would be rejected. Perhaps gralegav should give it a punt.
I put my deposit down last Thursday. All of the interesting numbers had gone. I went for blue (of course?) I wonder if anyone has gone for anything else.

I'm at Geneva today. If public interest in any way transfers to sales then this car is going to sell well. The stand is absolutely heaving with people who are all over the cars.

All 1955 Premiere editions have now gone (deposits paid), and you can now reserve a standard edition.

I am still not convinced they will be down to £10k second hand by 2020 as someone said on another thread, let alone £35k.

The A110 will be at the London Motor Show in May if anyone wants to go and have a closer look.
