What is Vauxhauls USP? What do they add to a potential buyers choice? Cheap, ugly cars for people tragically born without any imagination and nationalists not clever enough to realise they're about as English as Bratwurst. They're basically the millenial version of Rover, and we all know how well that went after their takeover.
Even badge engineering good cars from other manufacturers couldn't save them so it leaves little hope for PSA.
Clearly Mr Recard is not a fan of conflicting opinions.
They're just cars that are perfectly fine in their sector. Like a VW or Ford or the other competitors. And I've never heard anyone buy them for being English - at least some of the Vauxhall fans I know describe them as German or even American.Even badge engineering good cars from other manufacturers couldn't save them so it leaves little hope for PSA.

However to want Vauxhall/Opel to fail is just strange - how can a certain mass market car upset you that much? Most people who don't like a certain car are content just to buy anther.
I really don't like most Volkswagens, so I tend to buy other makes of car. I've had a few Vauxhalls amongst others. Only one of my Vauxhalls was made in the UK (Luton), so I certainly don't see them as English. Two were made in Germany, one in Spain.
That being said, they need more powerful diesels as a priority and to use the clever front suspension from the GTC on more models as it really transforms the handling (wispier it, it even handles well). All good fun!

I agree with you - it's not worth anything like that. I think the point of the article is that it's a bit of a curio, an oddity. You'd get pretty much the same result by spending £500 on an Astra Coupe Turbo and the same again on some decent suspension, and if you must then a couple of hundred more for a remap.
To list a few other cars you would get for same money, all good cars that are worth it and will appreciate:
Mint E39 M5
Even mintier E36 or E46 M3
Mint 190 Cosworth
Even mintier C43
And so on.
So many nice cars you could have instead of that Astra
You would actually have to be insane to buy that Astra for 12500

12.5k for that! It has to be a mistake or a joke
I'm going to email the seller and ask is the price a typo, is the real price 2495 as opposed to 12495
To repeat my earlier post for those unwilling to read it all, it sold for auction (ACA) in King's Lynn in Jan for £6080.12.5k for that! It has to be a mistake or a joke

The quicker Vauxhaul disappear off the face of the planet the better. Fingers crossed the workforce can be retained to build something else.
Had a coupe for 7 years loved it was a great car. Nothing special just the 1.8 entry level Bertone but at the
time that's all we could afford and it served me well.
Sold it and bought a Twintop now that was a mistake.

I quite like the rarity of these and the fact that they have many bespoke parts and are a bit different...
So apart from springs/dampers/rims/rubber/bodykit, and perhaps a different ratio in the rack, what's actually changed? That apart, it's a 15yo 3dr Astra turbo.Yes its a 15yr old Astra turbo and I'm certainly not a Vauxhall fan and like I said I think it should be priced at closer to £5k but as I said it does have plenty of bespoke parts and has rarity factor.
I love my Vauxhall more than most having an Omega MV6 and a serious want for a Vectra B Gsi atm but that's at least 3 times the price it should be.
utterly bonkers.
on an alternative note does anyone want to buy a Omega MV6 in super rare manual needing "minor" restoration, say 8 grand?

Compared to the old 911 Sportomatic ( the awful gearbox one you couldn't give away in the 80s ) that just sold for a quarter of a million, 6k doesn't seem so bad!Ahbefive said:

That £4k might be a bit optimistic don't you think? Regular GSI hatchbacks have only just come down to £3kish so I very highly doubt £4k not long ago would've brought a 888 tbh CraigyMc said:

Really never understood the hate for Vauxhall's, I think their VXR range is great.
Having driven all of them, I think they're st.I don't hate Vauxhall. I just don't think there's any point in buying one, or see any point in the brand existing.

There are limited editions that have now become valuable classics because they were great looking and good cars.
This was a proper "driven straight into Halfords edition" that looked dodgy back then and has then aged very badly from a terrible start.
Agreed. The Mk4, even in coupe form, is by far the worst looking of all the Astra generations. This was a proper "driven straight into Halfords edition" that looked dodgy back then and has then aged very badly from a terrible start.
