How can you go from P1 to "quirky/ugly" 720s to this nonsense in 5 years?!?!?
Because the engineers (& aerodynamicists) have been given priority*, and their key objective is "make it as quick as possible around a circuit".

There's a lot to admire about Mclaren, but their ethos seems too far in the numerical, "statistics" direction (power, lap time, downforce, millisecond responses, etc. etc.), and not enough in the emotive "owner experience" direction (where looks / sound / feel / feedback are, I would expect**, more important).

Anyway, this looks like a f'n mess, agreed - most other mfrs manage to use aggressive aero without it being so ugly. I'm also in two minds about their use of the 'Senna' name - he drove for 4 different F1 teams, not just Mclaren...

* For a change...it's usually the designers causing the engineers headaches

** Rich playboys after the latest top-trump winner aside.

Looks awesome like that IMO.
Because there's no straight side-on shot - I noted that the same was absent from the latest Evo magazine.....

Looks like the windows have been taken directly from the F1. Shocked there's one on the road already tbh. They have been busy over at McLaren.

Does nobody recall how split opinion was when the P1 came out?

I remember a lot of people being derogatory of the design in a similar way. I think time will soften many an opinion.

I will clarify that this is not me saying the Senna is pretty, lol!

Like all new cars, I always reserve judgement until I see something in the flesh.

I think it looks much better in black without that awful window in the door - thanks to hiding some of the detail, it - to me - now looks like an aggressiv car, not beautiful but still not terrible. See GT2RS for another car that imo only really works in black due to all the details / black hiding some.

If a car only 'works' in black, then it's a sh't design.

...let's be honest about things here...

whatever we all think, its certainly being talked about and that is what McLaren want.

No such thing as bad publicity and all that...

Not what you expect to see around the streets of Hove on a grey, cold January morning, but a very nice looking and lovely sounding 1967 Pontiac Firebird.

This actual car but not my picture, found on google............

I remember how 'different' they were - and stunning.

I can't remember if they were actually half decent. Opinions on them as a 'Car' ?
From what I can remember they supposedly handled very well and had a high level of grip, they didn't quite have the 'go' you'd expect though.
