The Bora is such a beautiful car.

Perhaps you could inform me, having never had the opportunity to see both side by side to compare, is the Bora essentially Merak with a V8 and slightly different buttresses/rear lid, or are they substantially different models? TIA.
Essentially the same. They were developed alongside one another, with the Merak intended to be a lower cost, higher volume seller.
always felt Bora looked more substantial, cohesive design whereas the merak was more finicky, which may be the case. It was, after all, a fiddled about with version of the Bora as I recall. One of my all time 'what ifs' is....imagine a citroen sm but with the Bora's big banger 8 stuffed up front!? That would have been THE gt car!!

One or two of the period road tests said the Bora was a bit chubby around the midrif but was still a beautiful looking car, I think one of the testers (possibly John Bolster) called it an instant classic. The first time I ever saw one in the metal is still etched in my mind all these years later, a brand new one in metallic blue with white leather seats and door trim panels, parked outside a neighbour's house on a Sunday morning. The owner's mother's orange Beetle parked in front of it looked ancient in comparison.

That’s pretty much what the Khamsin is. Wonderful car.

Khamsin is wonderful yes, but not Citroënesque enough. Steel sprung so no magic carpet ride? RWD rather than fwd and only an SM looks like an SM

If we'd got Corbyn RWD would be banned

FWD with a V8 would be understeer central.

Maybe it’s an age thing but that era was, for me, the pinnacle of supercar design. I just remember magazine shoot-outs during those years: the Countach, the 512BB, the original 911 Turbo, and then cars such as the Maserati on the periphery. The Bora was such an elegant brute of a car.

Yup, but it would suit the straight line boulvardier the SM was.

Pretty rare I think. A C124 AMG bodykitted bornite bit of loveliness...

FTFY
In the 70s it was either a Ferrari, Lamborghini or Maserati, as good a car the Porsche was they weren't in the same class as the big 3 Italian brands.

I don’t know if it’s me ageing or the car, but that Merc looks lovely. When it was new I probably wouldn’t have shown any real interest.

Back ‘in period’ it would have looked vulgar.
Today it looks restrained.

I suppose we can all make our own minds up.

During an organized drive on Father's Day, two Sundays ago in Los Angeles, the mobile camera crew for the organizer caught this image of my Pantera on the freeway. I think it's quite a nice shot.
