for all that it may be unpalatable to the rest of us who understand that the Defender is meant to be a very particular type of rugged vehicle, JLR have successfully created a vision to somehow build upon that credibility but take it in a totally different direction, drive a massive change in that concept, push the brand in a totally different direction, and charge and absolute fortune for it. They read the market and it worked. Is it a sell out? Probably. However if you want to focus negative energy at someone then maybe the buyers are a better target. I live in Knutsford in Cheshire, which is firmly in the RR driving wker belt. These new Defenders are everywhere.

I’d say LR is, perhaps, the premium brand of choice at the moment (amongst people influenced by such things) and certainly right up there with anything else.
And a new one will obviously be the one to have.

There's a new Defender local to me with a private plate that was last on a Range Rover Sport , so RRS owners trade "up" to new
Defenders .

As an RRS owner I'd trade up to a FFRR but not a Defender.

Hi there,

One of my neighbours has traded in his Bentley Mulsanne (latest gen one not the 80's one) for a new LR Defender.

Seems an odd move to me.

Not odd if your choice of vehicle is based on the question "What's cool at the moment?"

A lot of people do that and it's not my thing but I get it ...

But when was a Bentley Mulsanne the cool thing to have?

I would sort of call it trading sideways. Just different sort of thing.

Considering chopping in my RRS for a 110 and my Dad is trading in a Model S for a V8 defender.

Personally we both like them to just be big comfortable work horses.

I did think about swapping my Range Rover for a Defender (more space for the dogs than my L405). By the time I'd specced all the goodies I'd want on it, it was the same price as my Rangie was! I know where I'd rather spend my time. The dogs will have to remain a little cramped.

Fair point. Is LR/RR the new Burberry?

Sadly true.

Thing is, most people I know who've owned one (RR or LR, even current gen stuff) wouldn't want to without a warranty. Which does not, IMHO, make it a quality product...no matter how nice the leather inside...

Would you risk any "quality" car without warranty?

Wow that’s a spot. I googled the reg. It’s definitely a DB4 and probably a DB4 GT (DB4 GT 0147/R), so worth millions just for that, but probably not a genuine Zagato. There aren’t many photos on the web, but I found this. Apparently it was rescued from a barn in Cornwall many years ago. Here in GT form.

Serious supercar drought, the last thing that I saw approaching a supercar was a black 550. This weekend I spotted a M2 and a C63.

Lovely!
That'll be from RS Williams - one of the best AM specialists in the world. There are usually lots of pristine Ams being driven around the area.

Depends on the manufacturer. Lexus - absolutely.

...others, less-so...

...but regardless, JLR continue to languish very very near the bottom of all reliability charts.

Have to say I wouldn’t class either of those as a supercar.

Unfortunately didn’t get a photo but seen a Mercedes CL65 V12 twin turbo today at the garage I was getting my MOT done at. White with red leather. Looked like something a retired porn star would drive but what a monster
