Are 3 cars for one person too many?
Discussion
I live on my own with a lowish income and have three cars and don't think its excessive, and I'm not a powerfully built company director. EP3 type r, Mk2 MX5, and a stroen C1 for the boring st.
You're average family these days often has two average cars, so all that would be is having something interesting for the family pistonhead for weekend use.
I think three is actually the magic number in terms of regular use. Something for the ste jobs, something for the cruising and looking semi-respectable, and something completely bonkers that puts a smile on your face.

How do you lot go about insuring 4+ cars?
Shirley that's gotta be hitting the wallet hard unless you're fleet/business covered?
Limited mileage policies I've found bring down the price. Plus if you use someone like Esure they'll match no claims across all policies and give you 10% each one as a multi-policy idea. Shirley that's gotta be hitting the wallet hard unless you're fleet/business covered?
I pay about £1k for four cars, a Megane 225 (agreed valuation), Twingo 133, CLS63 and a E320 CDI. The E Class is insured for up to 9k a year but the rest are lower.

The Stag is parked outside work today.
Is that because it's broke down? The Stag is parked outside work today.

Not really. It's a 'look my daddy has bought a DB11' thread.
Awesome.

Harsh.
Haha not to worry, tbh it is a bit of a silly thread but just wondered if any other people shared my opinion! I think if the cars all fulfil a different purpose, 3 isn't too many, but seeing as they are modern cars (and being diesel) lack of use can cause issues in the long run. It's in the cars best interest to be driven. Harsh.

Pictures needed of that DB11 please, post in the AM section.
Will do, unfortunately it's only in grey (see 'Cobalt Blue on a DB11' thread ) but should be a nice looking car nevertheless. SWoll said:
For the OP's question, as above, if no off road driving then dump the 110 as they are bloody awful as a road car anyway.
Yes this was what I was thinking, surely a Range Rover can't be harder to maneuver around town than a Land Rover which has a turning circle of a 747! It's just not used enough and I can't even fit in it anymore (not enough leg room). Plus I feel it's a shame for it to just drive around town, it's not what it was designed for.I have No:1 for everyday duties like going to the supermarket/dump/ builders centre, and multi passenger/heavy load long distance stuff.
No: 2. for short distance/ fun driving, when the weather is nice.
No: 3. for long distance 2 up, high speed stuff in all weathers.
I would really prefer not to use any one of the above for each of the journey types that each of the other two do.

She has never let me down! But then she shouldn't either, 2500 miles on a fully rebuilt original engine.
I was only pulling your leg, it sounds like a nice one, have you restored the rest of the car.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=151...

The number of cars desired at any one time is always the current number + 1 (as a minimum)
This is very true.I think I have never grown up from the point when I was about 5 and I used to line all my Matchbox, Corgi and Dinky toys up and say look how many I've got mum!
Having said all that, keeping track of MOT, servicing, tax and insurance is a pain - never had to worry about that as a kid.
A subject dear to my heart!
I've currently got 5. I can't say really that they cover 5 different jobs, I have just bought them when I fancied something else but not got round to selling the previous one!
Anyway, in theory, if you can afford to run them and can park them then there's no problem really, but for me the biggest problem I have is using them all enough. Cars need using - the minute you're not using them on a regular basis you get flat batteries, damp, corrosion, dodgy electrics, the works. So if you're not rotating them properly you are going to end up with a car not working when you want it. And enough storage for several cars does not equal accessibility. Whichever car is in the garage requires 3 or 4 cars to be moved to get it out. Which means I *REALLY* have to want to drive it.
I have 2 that I don't really want to leave parked just anywhere, one of which has only 2 seats which is no good for the family. One doesn't have an MOT(!), which leaves 2 (which are both straight 6 manual BMWs ) so it's not very easy to rotate fairly.
If I had more time and more accessibility then it would be fine, but currently it's not working that well for me! I think 3 is a manageable amount for me at the moment. But I would be bored to tears with one!
