A 300k house around St Athan isn't cheaper but it's a damn site more house than than what's on offer in Gaydon

St Athan: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...
Gaydon: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...
To be fair you picked a house in Harbury to compare to though. Probably the village closest to Gaydon with the most over inflated ego and with house prices to match.....
I just went for a 3 mile radius... no local knowledge of either. It's a shame AM don't match the Gaydon pay scale. I work for a huge British company and it's pays the same across the board. My wedge would definitely go further in Wales... with those great roads, my fuel bill would go up though.

As has been said, good to see production staying a Blighty and additional employment gained from, suppliers and support work.
I think that's the point that Aston are a uk operation and are able to pay less wages in a different area of the uk because house prices are cheaper?
Tvr lets say are uk based but with only one area of operation. So their pay scale will be based on cheaper house prices in wales. No chance of a second operations in dearer housing areas then or would they pay more because a house is more expensive to buy like for like?
I moved from Essex to South Wales via Ford. Granted I have a bigger home than before but it's still afforded on what I earn which is the same mortgage I had in Essex. No difference there. My council tax is more though for a like for like value not cheaper.
Scenery and fresh air is amazing though. 15mins from a beach and 15mins in the middle of nowhere lol.
It does rain everyday though, so maybe that's the reason for astons cheaper wages wink

I totally agreed... my point was basically you would get more house for the £300k quoted.

I would imagine it was the chance of getting the MOD site rather lets produce in Wales, now lets see what we can find. Converting huge hangers to car production facilities will be way cheaper then raising buildings out of the ground. Then there are the incentives from the Welsh Government etc... I'd imagine it was more the right place, right time and all the pieces falling into place. Everything contributing to lower production costs.

Well the Aston SUV is a limited production run as I got that from the top man at the recruiting day. So 4 years top and then Aston look at finances again. Shame really.
Ford will be pulling out the uk in 4-5years. Diesels are not wanted anymore and no new petrol engines either. Electric and hybrid is currently under development and my guess being produced in Koln Germany.
So a rather large engine production facilities will be available in 2021/22 in South Wales not far from st athan

The superhanger was a huge white elephant built a few governments back that then got handed to the RAF to refurb VC10s when the planned use went in the bin.

Those are also now long gone and its been used for storage ever since.

Word is that Aston were given it for free if they based their production here.

Simple enough to install the production lines inside, and whip them out again later on.

Heading there Sunday for a look as my dad worked on the VC10s back then in said hangers.
