I'm somewhat surprised by the price. When I heard about it I expected the pricing to be similar to the Frontline MGBs, but with a lower price as the powertrain isn't upgraded. I assume the quoted 50% increase is relative to a early 850.

They've done it the wrong way round for me. Modern exterior with a 1275 and 4 forward gears? No thanks.

Obviously, for the hipster target audience, it's all about looking different (by looking exactly the same as everyone else who thinks they look different).

I like it. Very nicely done, but I'm a Mini fan. Will be great fun to drive and in the spirit of the old Radford built cars. £75kish a lot when you could have a mint/restoredMK1 Cooper or Cooper S for less though. I hope it does well.

One question- why?

Fair play he's trying something different but the original mini was ste and this looks no different. I wonder what the ncap rating will be for this, something like -4 against modern vehicles I'd imagine.

But atleast it gives the sad acts that continually moan that modern MINI's aren't proper mini's something to masturbate over.

You have got to be stupid to pay up for this car.

It seems many of us want to go back in time and are prepared to pay for it! I think I would opt for an original (rebuilt) 1275 S though. I assume I would have change over this?

If I wanted a classic mini, id build my own.

I had two minis, years ago, and as fun as they are to drive, re-joining the exhaust manifold to drive shaft, and repairing the engine stabiliser every weekend just gets boring. I paid £250 for the first and £350 for one with diskss.

£50 G's for a mini? are they for real ? Just think what else that gets you ?
Are there really people that would give that for a bloody A'series.

Im off to shoreditch with a van load of £500 beard trimmers right now.

Yes. You should see what they pay for a stty 70s/80s bike frame with some el cheapo singlespeed components bolted to it. £750 for a hundred quid's worth of bike parts? Only in Shoreditch.

which brand/bikes do you mean? after some quick googling I came across this...

£500-700 for old bikes that you'd buy on ebay for £50 quid. basically up cycled pub bikes. I'm not a fan of old road bikes because of the gear selector not being on the handle bars like modern bikes.

Quite right. Any chance someone could accidentally "re-master" a normally-aspirated RWD Skyline R32 powertrain into a Triumph gt6 shell. Or a straight-six BMW unit, I'd not be that fussed.

I remember a Japanese fella called Go Ishikawa in the 1990s who used to modify original Minis. He made all sorts, SWB Minis, Mini limosuines, convertibles and anything else you can think of. I think cars like this might be popular in China or Japan rather than Britain or Europe where people tend to be culturally more cynical.

Re the customised Minis; there was an episode on Top Gear in 1996 which featured it with Andy Wilman doing the presentation. The same episode featured the R33 GTR Skyline V-Spec.

If anyone can dig it out it would be a real trip down memory lane.

Eh, you pay a premium for someone else doing the hard work. Plus a bit of Hoxton hero tax of course.

I like some of the interior bits.... I am torn currently about keeping or selling mine, I just don't use it enough! But if I kept it, I think i'd invest in a bit of cash to make it a bit more plush interior wise, and some of those bits are lovely, wonder if you can just get hold of some of the pieces. Seeing stuff like this though does make me want to fix some of the niggles and get it back out for summer

I'd have one although "V8 FOU" says it all. If you're going to remaster a mini then a 5 speed box and a decent heater blower motor are MUSTS.

Think they'd do a pickup?

Do not get why its so expensive. you could buy a mint mini, drop a modern engine, disk brakes, deck out the interior and add gadgets if thats your thing and still have a lot of change left.

You could get an early BMW Mini for even less than that and it already comes with a modern engine, disc brakes, interior and gadgets, and you wouldn't even have to do any restoration work on it wink

If they get the prannets who read GQ and other 'style' publications interested in this they could be on to a winner.

The amount that classic Ford Escorts sell for is proof that a market exists for this. The Mini, like the Escort is a fun to drive car that doesn't really compete with any modern stuff in terms of performance, safety, comfort etc, but they are cool, and people remember them.

Normal people don't care about the A-Series, or the 4 speed box, or even the <100hp.
It looks like a Classic Mini, it has a lush interior and looks pretty. They have presumably added some sound proofing, and it looked like an MPI lump so should be turn key reliable rather than pissing around with dodgy electronics and carbs.
The 4 speed box will just add to the classic feel - I think they have realised that people want a modern classic car (with the speedster) though in this case, it's just a classic car with a new shell.
I'd be interested in what they've done suspension and chassis wise - will it still dive like a classic Mini, or is it now modernised?

Is it worth £75k? Well, this is Pistonheads, so most here would likely put money into something else, or build their own Mini.
But for wealthy folk who want something out of the norm, why not?
