I had a Range Rover in the early eighties, two door classic, bloody loved it smile Never been in a Disco, but one parked next to me about 18 months ago at a hotel in the Peak District... It was a monster, it made the Vantage look like a toy car frown

That said it did look quite smart... I have no idea which model it was though smile

Thats the previous generation Discovery 4.

Its just about perfection for what a Discovery should look like. Tough, boxy, spacious, strong.

They couldn't better it. So they ruined it, like they are doing with the Defender as per LR trend:

L322 looks far better than latest FFRR. Freelander 2 looks far better than Disco Sport. They should stay "chunky".

Still not keen on the looks from the second row doors back.

Interior is lovely though.

I’ve got a LR experience voucher to use so going to try one for on and off road driving to see if I like how it drives.

A mate got a 48 hour test drive of one to see how he and his wife liked it. They both have D4s and have had 4 D3 and 4s. As they have 4 kids and stay out in the countryside, a 4x4 is quite handy.

He says it looks fugly and the bonnet makes it hard to place and judge for off road stuff.
But compared to his 2014 3.0 D4. It’s far better on the road. The weight loss is very noticeable and it picks up and sheds speed very well.

He wants to try one off road properly but he thinks it’s a decent car. But not a Land Rover.

I was lucky enough to own a couple of Disco 4’s like the one in the photo and they were fantastic cars! I’d happily have another, but needed to replace the last one at short notice. For lots of obvious reasons, the Disco 5 was completely hopeless and fell well short of the mark, so I bought L405 instead. It might not be as good looking as the L322, or be as spacious and practical as the ‘4, but it has the great airy glass house, command driving position, visibility of the far corners of the bonnet and the split (or side hinged) tailgate (and even the vertically stacked tail lamps!) that would seem to mark out ALL proper, full sized, Land Rovers!

It doesn't matter one bit what it looks like - it's just a designer fashion accessory for a certain type of person (orange bimbo airhead, 40's bloke in skinny jeans and white rimmed sunglasses...you know, a tt).

Will people never tire of this kind of nonsense on Labd/Range Rover threads ?

Regardless of what this thread says its selling just fine and its a damn good car both on and off road.

Looks might be not to everyones taste but as we are seeing the people who land rover actually care about - newer disco 4 owners - are upgrading plenty enough for healthy sales figures and they are mostly not crass flashy idiots like you imply just people who want good family transport and have some disposible cash
