No details of the Maybach that's in half the supplied pictures?

For once, I'll go against the tide of criticism on here, which is for the most part irrelevant as Mercedes will continue to outsell everyone else in this sector as they have done for years (and before anyone says "yeah but Tesla...", worldwide sales show the S-Class still dominates its market) and add something positive to the conversation...

One thing I really like about these new models is Mercedes have finally realised no-one liked the cruise control stalk (it always felt like a weird thing in a modern car) so they've done what everyone else does and put the cruise control functions on the steering wheel itself.

It's a small thing but at least it shows they listen to their customers - apparently feedback from buyers made them change their minds.

Not really interested in all the 'assistance' gubbins but as a place to spend time in, these cars will all be extremely comfortable, very quiet (don't underestimate the effect this has on a persons stress levels after a journey) and have space for days. If you don't like the colours shown in the pictures I'm sure you could have something a little more, er, subtle laugh

I'd definitely prefer an S-Class over any equivalent SUV!

Is the 4 wheel drive going to be available in RHD markets this time?

I for one think it's fantastic. It really is the ultimate package of luxury, technology and performance. Yes the biscuit interior isn't the nicest but I'm sure Mercedes do this just to show the wide range of configurations/customisation available (As Bentley seem to have done with the new supersports).

In the right colours/spec, this car is incredible.

My 2015 S350 is head and shoulders above any other car I've owned or been a passenger in. I've owned it for a year now and it's been brilliant for my long commutes. It's just a very well engineered car. Obviously supremely quiet and comfortable. It does feel like your ears have popped when you first drive it due to the lack of noise and otherwise inaudible sounds, like your hands moving on the steering wheel suddenly become strangely noticeable. Lots of little things that contribute to the feeling of well being like the softness of the leather, the clarity and simplicity of the entertainment system, the active headlights and many simple things like the screenwash being heated and sprayed just in-front of the wiper blades in each direction so your vision isn't obscured. The ride comfort is fantastic, if a little soft in comfort mode for wafting about but it does squat down and firm up in sport mode to give some feel. It's mostly intended for disguising the fact that you are covering the ground at three figure speeds though.

I was pleasantly surprised that I could find a 2015MY S350 in a Merc dealership for a bit less than I had to spend. I started looking at the last of the L322 FFRRs but they just looked expensive to buy and run and very old tech compared to the W222 S-class. Looking at Merc approved used just now, there are early W222s starting at £33K and some 2015MY cars for about what I paid last year. £38K buys you a LWB '65-plate (9-speed) car with 14,000 miles. That's a lot of car for the money.

I think the interior shots re from the 'Maybach' edition not the AMG. Alas the Germans cannot do elegance or class, they rely upon us Brits to finish the product correctly.

This. A FFRR, as nice as they are, are not a patch on S classes. Absolutely love these cars. Will be upgrading once prices hit <£30k although very tempted by a Facelift W221 S63 5.5 BiTurbo rather than a newer shaped diesel S350.

7 series/A8 - the poor mans S class.

That is a very unpretty interior. In fact, it's a mess.
If you get it in sensible colours its not as bad. The white leather on that one doesn't help laugh

It has been out for a while though (the facelift car) so why it's taken PH so long to cotton on I dunno.

S65 is £180+ Grand!
Audi S8 by comparison is just over £100K

As a MB salesman said to me a few weeks ago "Ah, W218 (CLS). The last of the good looking interiors"
Not bad.

MB have gone odd with their current interiors though. Not intuitive at all.

Here's the AMG GTR though for a real "fire the buttons from a cannon" job

Problem with Merc saloons these days is that they all look the same.
When my neighbor had his friend park a C-class next to his E-class (both almost brand new) I played 'spot the difference'. There weren't that many.
Is Merc really that lazy that they can't be bothered to do anything else than photo copy at 105% and change minor details?

See also Audi

See also BMW.

Tis a German thing. They spend their whole lives looking at each other instead of actually innovating.

I agree but I think the E class is the best looking saloon in the mb range.
Its a shame that the classy chrome mb grill is a rarity on mb saloons(minus the s class) but the c class just looks odd and frumpy.

I did think so but tbh I can easily tell Beemers apart, only 3 vs 4GT confuses me somewhat.
Audis though - I saw an A8 in a dealership and before I looked at the badge I was 100% certain it was an A6.

Beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that, but to me Merc for a few glorious years knew how to make a pretty car (W212 pre facelift, especially in Sport trim) and then forgot again. Most of their current core range to me looks like it fell off the ugly tree hitting every branch on the way and then went up for a second go.

These days from the German lot IMO BMW makes defo the prettiest cars, with Audi close seconds but being a bit too rhinestone-LED encrusted.

These days? Mercedes always look the same, thats the point. Exactly the same as Audi and BMW.

Touche!

Although... this pix mixes generations and should have included W210, not W124. That would mean that only C and S look alike, and mainly from the front.
