^I kinda knew the thread would end up like this when I started it!

Perhaps I'll start another one: "Beautiful-looking coupes" and we'll end up with all the same cars!

I wonder if there is any car (never mind coupe) that PH would all agree on liking, Aston DB9?

Apologies. I did flick through every page before I posted but after reading through the first 5 or 6 which were mostly about A5 Sportbacks, I then looked only at pictures. I either didn't see it or it was only mentioned in text format. I will hunt for a new suggestion now...

I'm going to leap to the defence of the Chrysler Crossfire before someone includes it in here.
I've got nothing against them as such, but they always remind me of a dog having a st. The Crossfire is the bottom pic.

I wondered the same. I'm starting to think that the entire concept of a coupe is a flawed one, or one that has become outdated, or out of fashion or something.

Has desirability of coupes been diminished by superfast estates and Golf Rs? Is that how we do it these days? Or do we no longer need to decrease practicality to sell a sporting image, when simple styling and marketing (M-Sport, AMG-Line, S-Line, R-Line) will do the trick instead, to a wider audience?

Hmmm. I'll think about that while I'm browsing Evoras in the classifieds...

How can anyone hate on the beautiful E82 1 series coupe? (granted SE specs are a bit bleh)

Can't agree. The basic model is dumpy and ill-proportioned. The M version just exaggerates the flaws (though the performance compensates)
I'm sure they're great to drive, but it still looks like a noddy car to me

If only other manufacturers realised that chucking some stainless manifolds on any old bucket of an engine would deliver it revered status.
The basic V6 busso engine has a fair degree of pedigree, as a road car engine (200+ bhp, 7k rpm, great noise, decent mpg and longevity). Also has chrome plated intake pipes, make up on a pretty girl.

Agree you can't sprinkle glitter on dog st and call it a donut
or put lipstick on a pig

Not necessarily, you may get new ones that haven't been mentioned yet like the BMW Z4 coupé, Alfa GTV, Pontiac Solstice etc

Even as an E82 owner I would agree it fits in this thread, however the "awkward" looks are one of the things I love about it. Not conventionally pretty, but definitely striking and looks like nothing else on the road. Not a fan of the SE models, but the M Sport and 1M variants I think look great. More like a small Staffie than a Poodle smile

But then, I don't really consider it a Coupé. If we're honest, it's a 2 door Saloon, and to me, all the better for it. Means, rather than your typical Coupe, you can still fit people and stuff in it smile

Maybe we've finally realized that coupés crafted from saloons really don't make any sense. Why pay a whole lot more for 2 fewer doors and less rear space, when everything else is the same? It's not a logical decision, is it?

NB: good luck with the Evora hunt wink

The styling is a bit marmite... even as a owner I find myself thinking "meh", and "nice!" depending on my mood and the viewing angle.

That's it. Nail on head. It's the ones that weren't designed as coupes from the start that are so wrong.

(I'm not really buying an Evora. I was just thinking of a counter example to my own argument, but you've explained why Evora's don't count... they're not saloon or hatch based!)

Whoever within Suzuki signed that off was on some strong meds!
I have a huge soft sport for that, i dont quite now why, but i'd totally drive one
Me too. Love it.
Careful what you wish for. Back in 2000 an ex had one exactly as above (fat tyres etc) except in lilac. I drove it a handful of times and it was without doubt one of the worst cars I've driven – and I've driven a Vauxhall Corsa.

The steering seemed like a suggestion rather than a command, it was cramped, impractical, gutless, the boot lid was incapable of staying open and itmade you feel like a right berk. I saw it pottering around the city last week. I can't believe it hasn't been crushed.
They are essentially a Vitara, so drive the same as them. I,e. Nothing wrong with them at all.
I have to say the Vitara is by far the worst car I have ever driven, so that's not saying a great deal.
