Picture NOT PhotoShopped (dragged straight from Honest John).

Still think it looks OK?
I suppose they were designing it for the common scenario of short driver and tall rear passenger?
The CC's rear headroom is reduced by half a foot over the standard Passat. But any tall rear passenger is more than compensated due to the ergonomic placement of the door handles.

Agree about the Alfa, I never like them.

Also, I give you the Hyundai Accent Coupe:

Here in Western Australia that's called an Excel and there's now a one-make race series for them, I'm actually thinking of entering, good cheap(ish) fun.

Rather unfair to compare the handsome-looking Mondeo to the car above it.
The A5 Sportback came first...

But the Mondeo always looks badly proportioned in real life. They're very under-wheeled which doesn't help the bloated appearance.

The original A5 Sportback is a decent looking car - not really a coupe, more a large hatch version of the A4. But, as someone else has said, it has aged very well.

I'll also come out as a fan of the A7. In the metal, they're fabulous.
Totally agree on the Mondeo, it went from cool to flabby in one fell swoop. My 2008 version is so much better. Wish I had a picture.

Also, I know its bending the rules as it isn't a coupe per se but I was following a Passat CC the other day and from some angles the misalignment of front and rear door handles just looks totally weird to my eyes.

Yes, no fridges, washing machines or sofas in sight - seriously posh subsidised housing! (Major potential to go downhill once the benefit cap applies though - at last)! laugh

Probably just a retirement complex?

For clarity, isn't this an Astra Coupe? Anything else is surely a hatchback.

I figured rules for coupe were 2dr, and boot-lid that opens without rear window i.e no hatch. I see a fair fe cars on here that I'd class at hatchbacks.

Your not wrong..

2 doors
Boot lid with out glass....

... IS the most widely used definition.

However, you will still get some oddities.

Mk1 Escort for example, was available as a 2 door or 4 door saloon or 2 door estate.
None of the RS versions (Mexico, RS1600, Twin cam, RS2000) were called coupes.

I therefore think its really a combination of 2 Doors, boot and rear window shape.

I've never viewed whether the glass opens with the boot as a defining feature of a coupe. There are two door saloons and there are three door hatches which are not coupes; there are also coupes with both types of boot.

It would be a bit odd to consider things like the Corvette and 944 to not be coupes.

That's probably a fairly decent way to define a coupe - still loads of rule-breakers though, like the BMW 6er Gran Coupe (it's actually a 4-door) and the Mazda RX-8 (also a 4-door).

Has the Hyundai Veloster been mentioned, it's awkward as it has a front and a back door on one side and only a front door on the other:

I find, as an owner of a near identical example (except for being in bits), the end view is the most awkward. The roof looks slightly overinflated, like a space helmet.
