Some odd definitions of coupes in this thread but I guess it's being stretched more and more by manufacturers, anyway I don't want to be one of those people who ruins a thread arguing about it so here is my nomination, I give you the piece d'elegance that is the Hyundai Coupe.

Not really coupes, though.

yes

The GT has it all compared to the brera, better looks, nicer engines, and no opel parts either

Given the potential for some pretty awful coupes, many shown in earlier posts (probe, cougar, nissan thing, BMW 6 series to list a few) , I find it hard to believe that the Alfa GT is in this topic at all. Personally, one of the better looking coupes of recent years and in my opinion nicer to look at than the Brera (that arse!). The looks being one of the main reasons I've just bought one! They also drive pretty well.

The trouble with the Alfa GT, in my opinion is that the 156 was so much better looking!

A bit of an own goal having a saloon that's better looking than your coupe.

I think the earlier shot of the Audi 100 Coupe under the A5 (or is it an A7?) makes my point - The A5 just looks so stodgy and heavy.

I know cars are different now to the '70s, but the A5 looks like a coupe that's had a few too many business lunches biggrin

It's a 2 door Mondeo, hence the back quarter panel to door ratio looks wrong.

The Americans were guilty of some of the ugliest coupes based on the "3 box design" approach like this Coupe De Ville

A tank of a thing indeed but it just shouts huge with its lines which barely deviate from purely horizontal or vertical. Nowhere near as ungainly looking as the Camargue or that Bristol as they have familiar looking shapes we'd see on smaller cars but thrown out of proprtion in various spots.

Controversial?

It looks good from most angles....until you get to that rear deck which just seems to go on and on and on. I think the official reason was that they needed to make the boot big enough to fit a set of golf clubs but tbh I wish they'd ditched that idea and just made it in proportion to the rest of the car or raked the rear screen out a bit more so acres of rear deck weren't so obvious. As it is, it spoils the decent lines of the rest of the car IMO.

I never liked the Vauxhall Calibra. It always looked awkwardly perched on that Cavalier chassis.

You are mad, the Calibra is one of the best looking Coupe's of all time; it looked fantastic when launched and still looks fantastic and timeless now.
Nope, sorry I have to disagree with you there. I never liked the look of them. They never sat right on the road to me, and I wasn't keen on the design either.

I remember Quentin Wilson describing them gushingly as "looking good enough to stop a speeding train" or something like that, but they did absolutely nothing for me. Very wooden to drive too, as we're most Vauxhalls from that era.

One of the few cars to make me carsick as a passenger, something wierd about the ride settings.

Now, I'd love to drive around in that!

The Calibra is an odd one. I've seen some that I love, some that I really don't like. Maybe it's sensitive to colour/wheel choices.
It had a good platform and engine range and some cool stats for the day.

Just... no. Not even with all the JCW credibility.
I don't see much credibility there, just a lot of tat stuck on an ugly body.
WTF is going on with the rear quarter windows?
