That is horrible, Chorlton is actually quite nice, but its near some not nice bits.

What is it with Audi S3's, they seem to be a scrote Magnet ? I saw a manky Leon with Lamborghini alloys the other day and drive round Manchester there are a lot of diesel S3's, suspect it was three grands worth of 1.6 or 2.0 tdi that was going to become an S3 look alike and it went very wrong, hope they get them and they go away for murder, I would imagine the known local car thieves are getting visits right about know.
Chorlton is supposedly nice, but where do you think all the criminals from moss side/ whalley range etc move to once they start seeing the fruits of their criminal behaviour? IMO its just as bad as the rest of south Manchester and has been for a while, even though the majority of the gang activity nearby has been taken care of over the past 10 years.

Living myself less than 3 miles from the city centre and being in/passing through south Manchester most days, this has scuppered my plans for an S3 in the near future. It's a shame but there's no point in taking on the risk unless you have a garage or secure gated driveway IMO.

Move a bit further out ?

Do TT's attract the same problems like the S3, a TTS is the same thing underneath.

Shut up!!! Don't tell the scrotes that!!

Can't get four of your pissed, drugged up, thieving FB friends in one to terrorise the locals. Plus you'd only have yourself & your mate to steal one and 2 against 1 would be too scary for most of these cowards.

You dont hear about them trying to steal a Citroen picasso or a Hyundai elantra

Whats the market for the stolen VAG? broken up as parts?
Apart from cloning / parts, it's also right at the top of the list as the thieves current weapon of choice for a high performance getaway car in robberies, car thefts, etc.

I live in South Manchester and was considering getting an S3 but there is no way I am getting one now. The S3 seems to be the car of choice for these scroats - there have been a fair few that have been reported as stolen over the last few months. Seeing the length these thieves will go to to nick the car it's not worth owning one.

I don't think it is a natural reaction for everyone. In the same way that some people will happily get involved in a scrap while on a night out while others will keep well out of the way. We are all wired differently

I don't think my natural reaction would be to risk my life over a car

They can't be too far from the action, I'd go as far as to say more or at least equivalent levels of criminal activity occur in chorlton/didsbury

and I don't think so, TTS would be seen as impractical if they were looking for a car to use in an armed robbery or similar, only way I could see one of those being targeted is being stolen to order

Whilst I understand what you're saying and 100% agree, I don't think the gentleman who was murdered thought his life was under threat when he stepped out. Of course any sane person would remain inside. Just such a tragic way for someone to lose their husband/son etc

i keep a knife and a lump hammer in our bedroom,

if someone got in the house and managed to get through every locked door and come upstairs then i would defend my wife and kids the best i could if given enough time, but i don't think id go challenge if i didn't have to,

if my alarm is going off and i see ppl getting in my car i would simply call the police, its insured at the end of the day

I moved out to Vancouver, Canada a decade ago and in all that time I cannot remember anything even remotely like this happening out here. You see landscapers with all their tools in the pickup trucks parked outside unattended and rarely, according to a mate who is landscaper, does anything get pinched.

It's not all roses out here, there's a fair bit of gang violence and bike thefts downtown are pretty common. But there just isn't the wellspring of scrotes joyriding, ram raiding etc. and just generally fscking things up for everybody.

It's really troubling to see and very hard to figure out how this problem gets sorted.

Yet if you raise any object in your own defence, or the defence of your property, you can expect a heavy sentence under the, ironically named, Criminal Justice and Prevention of Crime Acts. Story in the OP is a disgusting incident, I hope those involve rot in prison.
Not true, especially inside your own dwelling.

These pieces of st are becoming desperate. Society as a whole is just going down the pan

Country is going to the dogs. Was in the park with my family today and there were 5 teenagers smoking weed shirtless. Do these lads not have life or place to do this st it private?

Growing up and doing drugs was not a public thing to do and I'm 36!

I don't think "becoming" is right. This is a level down from car-jackings and they've happened for years.

The car will have dna in it.

The thief will be caught and done for murder soon. If not now then at some point in his life he will pop up on the dna database.

the thief wont be sleeping right now. Thankfully.

Makes you think about having a golf r, or s3 etc on the drive. Is it worth it. Im not so sure.

Hopefully there's be a forensic link in the vehicle.

I'd expect it'll realistically be manslaughter rather than murder.

Horrible state of affairs. Feel so sorry for the guys partner. We've got an S3 sat on the drive and this kind of thing does make you wonder if it's worth it. A couple of times I think i've been followed but i'm just being paranoid. Over on the Audi sport forums reports of people getting their S3 nicked is an almost daily occurrence.

I'n not really sure what the solution is, but surely we need greater deterrents in the form of tougher sentencing if caught nicking cars.

Worth keeping an eye out for spray paint / other unusual markings outside your driveway.

I'm not as involved with organised crime in terms of two in one burglaries these days but that was what a few gangs across the country were doing.
