It's a cleverly thought out plan , 30 people in a classroom getting bked at £3000 a day per town = £££££ nationally.
In a business centre where some guys we work with are based, the conference room is blocked booked by the local camera partnership and they do courses morning, afternoon and evening.

One of the guys who worked there was less than impressed when he got done himself at 46 in M42 variable when it was set for 40 for no apparent reason at 6 in the morning. Most of the people on the course he went to had been caught the same way. Surely it's a simple scam?

I have to admit that I am getting really annoyed by North Yorkshire's approach to speed cameras over the last few years.

They are concentrated on the A64 near York where they take in £££££ from many people doing 75-85mph. This is not a dangerous dual carriageway, but apparently there is no longer a need for them to justify camera locations based on accident rates any more!?!?!?

Then there are no cameras whatsoever in the villages and near the schools where numerous careless drivers are often doing 35-40mph without realising it.

I know the limit is the limit, but to me it is clear that their efforts are solely revenue generating and not for the prevention of accidents or any such like.

I also read that after a recent FOI request NYP were unable to provide stats on how effective the cameras are at reducing speed. (Un)amazingly they only measure the number of offenders and not the effectiveness of their campaign... shocking really and just typical of the short-sighted public sector mentality.
Damned annoying. I got a NIP through the post on Saturday - 82mph in 70 section of the A64 north of York. Mobile unit in the back of a transit connect I think. The sneaky bd was just out of sight until it was too late. I know I don't have a leg to stand on complaining about it, but it is annoying when you get caught! It'd be nice if the police focussed all their resources on... well anything that wouldn't involve me really wink

I'm just hoping the new fines that came in today aren't applied (25-75% of my weeks wage apparently for that speed!)

If offered a fixed penalty charge and you accept it then I don't think there is any change. The new band A guidelines are only if you choose to go court AFAIK.

Should get a speed awareness course for that anyway. I know they're a right pain but I wouldn't want to take the points when they can be avoided.

Can't - I've done a speed awareness course in the last 3 years. It's my own fault - can't really complain
