Invite the local doggers. Frequent turnover, lots of action, flashing lights (and wobbly bits).

Are you going away in the car or just driving to the airport? If the latter, get a cab to the airport and leave yours on the drive. Other than that, stash everything sentimental in a very safe place, take lots of photographs of your expensive stuff, get some decent insurance and ask a neighbour to keep an eye on your house (or get a house-sitter, I'm sure there are websites for that). If someone is looking at your house, I don't think a hire car that doesn't move is going to save you unfortunately.

As if one way hire cars with surcharges are cheaper than parking at an airport.....
Well, there is plenty of discount codes online. The minimum I've spent one day hire with airport drop off has been £19, top had been £36.
Hertz. I fly once a month.

In the case of the OP was anyhow hire + parking...

Another vote here for the cameras / lighting. If there is an issue in the neighborhood anyway, you'll be glad of it all moving forward as well as your holiday.

Worth investing in.

I have the Arlo system and it is fantastic. You get instant notification via an app of any movement, recorded video (Cloud recorded) and you can instantly contact the police wherever you are in the world.

If someone is determined to get into your house, they'll do it no matter what happens.

But you can:
- Put them off trying yours with security cameras visible, lighting etc...
- Record everything for evidence

Much better than a rental car for a few weeks.

I've got a "spare" I can park for you. It's an 02 clio and I'm not fussed if it gets nicked!
