Nice to see the chassis is better now for B roads, which are our best roads, being softer. The latest Golf GTi S club thingy also follows this route so the bumps and cambers are dealt with.

I can't afford one but I wish Porsche would make a lot more simply so more buyers, more driving and therefore more chance of me seeing one and perhaps hearing one being wrung out ! They need to make as many as the Fiesta ST so I see at least 12 a day.

Yeah Ferrari did that to destroy speculators, before the production increase some F40s were going for a million dollars at the time

Pointless review as its for a car porsche dont actually want to sell you - but they will sell you a 4pot turbo with the same badge so you can pretend.

Would happily buy one and use it for a few years if i were allowed to!

I have no issue with Porsche releasing investment assets onto the market on an annual basis.

Lots of companies do it.

Cannot understand though why they don't set the initial price 'at market' though?

Would they be "as good" if they were as attainable as a Fiesta ST though?

You can buy one? Wait for a used one.

Because then they'd be accused of profiteering perhaps? And I say this as someone who'd think about speccing and buying a GT3 as a keeper, but has (understandable) misgivings about spending the same on a used example.

Anyway, as for the meat of the review - nice swan - I think Dan gave us a good taste of what to expect from the gen 2 and, as others say, at least Porsche are still building interesting cars.

Looks like an awesome car, wish I was able to buy one. If this had permanent availability for the life of the 991 rather than a restricted production run the prices would drop at some point in a couple of years, so more people would get a chance to own and drive one.

I would be interested in a group test of the current investors choice of 911 against other cars costing the same price as the 911 is available on the open market. With the GT3 RS being available at around £250k that opens up a lot of interesting competitors...

Rather have a new one that i can spec to what i want, than buy one from a flipper at an inflated price.

Not really. Despite the 4x4 turbo being thought of as heavy and lardy, even since the 996 series, there's been scarce little difference in weight between them and the GT cars.

Chris Harris did exactly that when he compared the GT3 RS and Vantage GT12 to the Mclaren 650S. Very insightful, i recommend you check that out !

Nice little detail about the car: Apparently the tiny bit of red tape on the steering wheel (like a rally driver has) when you spec it as an option costs....£168.

Oh, and the best review I've read today comes from Sniff Petrol. He's back on form.

Sounds like a fantastic car, nice review Dan.

Regarding the lack of cars available - I was in the market for a second hand GT3 - but the lack of depreciation meant they were selling for close to the list price of a new one and I couldn't bring myself to spend that on a second hand 997. When I enquired about buying a brand new 991 I was politely told I didn't stand a chance.

If they depreciated like normal cars I'd have happily bought a 997 GT3 for £50-60k.

Slightly disappointed that he said just "red" rather than "guards red". wink

fk me the engine sounds great. The good news is it seams we'll get a second round of reviews when the manual box is reviewed...expecting a back to back comparison vid on the 911 R from someone. PLEASE!

I see C Harris esq has posted on Twitter that he thinks the engine in 991.2 GT3 is better than that in the R and 991.1 RS...amazing progress.

I have a day at the PEC in a couple of weeks....hoping the GT3 will be there and maybe someone will have it on the track.

Exactly. You can buy one you just don't want to pay the market premium. Porsche will naturally select people that have remained loyal to them/bought so many cars from them. It's a very smart tactic and great business, if a little frustrating for the average consumer who might want to buy one.

Supercar and if you are in the running fantastic value! Interesting that the demo car is PDK. I have to admit that the clutch on my own (997.2) GT3 can be wearing! Maybe I am too old for all this! Overall great that Porsche is still making these and long life natural aspiration.

I couldn't find that one, just the one where he compared the GT3 RS to the Vantage V12 to the C63 Black Series. I did find the GT3 RS vs. 650s vs. 458 Speciale as tested by Autocar. Obviously the Speciale has also gone mental for appreciation since it launched even more so than the GT3 RS so it isn't a direct competitor.
