Just renewed the insurance on the old X-type - £98 fully comp (for a year)smile

Sadly, one of the few benefits of getting older...frown
Chances are it will start to go up as you get older.
'tis truefrown

Even after all these years, the ways of car insurance are still sometimes hard to fathom....
I believe that older drivers are a bigger risk

I was forced into new insurance as a change of address (to one of the top20 worst in the UK unfortunately) meant my current provider was unwilling to cover me any more!
A MSM quote gave me premiums of double what I had been paying, which was a sting but expected. I then did it again a few days later and every quote was up by £2-300! So I went on Confused.com and lo and behold their quotes were back to MSMs original levels so I just went with a big name, non-budget company on there.

On a side note I signed up for freemotorlegal instead of paying the usual obligatory £30 on the premium - anyone had cause to use it? I'd usually say looks too good to be true but it seems legit and a credible business model.

Mine is taking the piss big time. full no claims, no points etc, no change of circs from last year. fully comp was 480 quid, this year ive just today received my renewal quote £11780 !!! what the juddering fk !!! not a chance. been with the company last 7 years too and this is how they treat a good customer who pays in full and never claimed a bean. went on compare the meercat and found tesco cover for 490 but that includes legal , windscreen cover , courtesy car and breakdown that my last one didnt. starting to think they make it up as they go along or just have a random number generator and send it out while pissing themselves laughing.
£11780??? Surely you mistyped and meant £1780? Bloody hell if not.

I'm dreading my renewal in June. Due entirely to my postcode, I pay a ridiculous sum to insure a 1.8 Mondeo.

I drive around 4-5,000 miles a year, have no at fault accidents and I have full no claims.

Mine's the same, 2.0TDCi Estate which came in at £245 this time. Similar mileage and in London
I'll be paying double that, though!

I've just renewed mine and was was pleasantly surprised by Aviva this year. £360 to insure the (modifed) Elise and Octavia fully comp with a £400 excess. They even let me transfer one of my no-claims bonuses to my wife so we both get the "drive any car" thing.

Admiral wanted 480 for broadly the same thing; everyone else was £500+.

If you have bought (or even if not) I'd run a quick email off to the companies involved.

I imagine the headline prices *should* include all mandatory fees and there is a bug somewhere. I'm pretty sure the comparison sites don't want price differences like that to occur.

You think thats bad? try mine....

I have an open claim from July last year (other driver hit me) which is going through court, my current policy is £250 a month due to it frown not looking forward to renewal in a few months looking at the above quotes.

I'd kill for £588 for the entire year lol.

Not being funny but the £480 you paid last year sounds excessive for a middle aged bloke in a 1.4 Fiesta.

Mine has gone up around £30 this year to just under £350. Quick searches online seems to look like I can get it £100+ less still with my same insurer.

Going to do a comparison search and try and get them to match their online quote. They have done it once before, taking a large percentage off their pee taking renewal quote.

I have an annual cycle of Admiral offering an renewal of +£200, I find it cheaper with Elephant, call Admiral who immediately offer to match their sister company's price, and then I sit on the phone for 10 mins demanding my pound of flesh for wasting my time (usually get a tenner off the Elephant price).

On the bright side, it included the administration fee.

£190 for a 2.0 Mk3 Mondeo here, same miles and ncb etc. I live in Devon which helps. Having spent 5 years living in Swansea I feel your pain with horrendous postcodes. Amusingly I had my car broken into the first night I was in Swansea, so I could understand the higher insurance costs.

Why is the entire page in one font, apart from "Legal Expenses"?

I have insured my car with Hastings for the last few years and it has always been under £500.

My renewal came through the other day for £600 and thought nothing if it as they are always more in the hope you let it auto renew.

Checked my emails and the meerkats emailed me saying Hastings where the cheapest at £300. Half their own quote.

Go through to check the details and they were all fine so refreshed the list and it dropped to just under £300.

I called them up to cancel current policy and the chap asked why I wasnt renewing to which I explained I was but as a new customer as it was more than half the price of their renewal quote.

It makes me laugh when your road tax is more than your insurance though.
This happened to me last month with my Van renewal, Nothing changed and up from the previous years £525 to £770.

Called Hastings to ask why the Meerkat site was cheaper and was told to cancel and start again...... Crazy

Agreed. I'm 51 and my daily driver is a 1.4 fiesta. Its less then £200 to insure, so around 50p per day!
