How do they get away with this - car insurance quotes

Do the same for a domestic MX-5 and see how much the price difference is, I bought the wife an MX-5 a few years back, but had found a Eunos nearby for a decent price, insurance on a Eunos was nearly £1500 compared to £180 for the MX-5 I eventually bought herMost Insurers pay very little attention to renewals as they rely on consumer apathy. On the other hand they pump tens to hundreds of millions into marketing budget to get new business. A new customer is likely to benefit from the millions in the first year because of the discounts given. Sometimes they'll pump a load into a comparison site and the quotes for the first year will be pretty good
There are still too many people who rely on the assumption that "I've been a member/policyholder for 25 years/gentlemans handshake phnarr phnarr phnarr". Those days are long over. All that matters is shareholders and short term figures.

I was forced into new insurance as a change of address (to one of the top20 worst in the UK unfortunately) meant my current provider was unwilling to cover me any more!
A MSM quote gave me premiums of double what I had been paying, which was a sting but expected. I then did it again a few days later and every quote was up by £2-300! So I went on Confused.com and lo and behold their quotes were back to MSMs original levels so I just went with a big name, non-budget company on there.
On a side note I signed up for freemotorlegal instead of paying the usual obligatory £30 on the premium - anyone had cause to use it? I'd usually say looks too good to be true but it seems legit and a credible business model.

Welp, to round off this thread. I gave up and went to buy the £588 quote from Hastings, having lost patience and given up (they were still cheaper for their service). Of course, when i went to pay for it having clicked through all the options I am told I MUST ring them to complete payment, I am unable to buy it online. Grumlbing even more now I ring them, spend 15mins on hold and give up to try another day. Obviously mid morning on a Friday is their peak time (!?).
On the way home I figure Ill give Admiral a ring to just see what their £640 quote can be dropped to (for sts & giggles I assumed) only to be very pleasent suprised by 5mins of confirming the details from last yuear and the call op magicly is able to knock of £104 to bring the quote down to £540 odd!
Over the moon with this, as Hastings can fk OFF and I saved some money over what I was preapred to pay. wahey

MoneySupermarket (which the OP used) was rubbish when I looked for insurance on my M135i. They seemed to have a very small selection of insurers and the cheapest wanted £850 (Admiral).
I then went to GoCompare and got insurance for £475 (esure) with no nasty surprises after click through though this may be due to my 328 already being insured with them.
And there was me thinking all price comparison sites were the same, silly me!
