I (extremely) briefly entertain the idea of these every time I'm looking for a tipmobile, but then reality sinks in and, as Shed says, I have to look elsewhere. I would feel bad filling up the boot of one in this condition with rubble sacks!
I seem to remember reviews at the time stating that the load capacity was less than the saloon's (below the window line, I assume)?
Im afraid my 156 2.5 SW has done quite a few tip runs this year, mostly rubble sacks too! It must really hate me. I seem to remember reviews at the time stating that the load capacity was less than the saloon's (below the window line, I assume)?
Buts it's sooo pretty and sounds soooo good....
I purchased a very similar saloon end of last year, same year, colour, engine. Great advert, lots of work done, covered lots of miles in the previous few years.
I wanted it as a station car while working away from home. But it turned out to be a complete dog, I endured it for 2 weeks, before abandoning it on my driveway and returning to my other car. It's sat there ever since.

I had the saloon equivalent, identical colour and spec to this. Ran it for 60k miles and only had one issue; climate control unit had to be replaced under warranty, only sold it because I got a company car.
I upgraded from a 155 with the 2.0 16v petrol that was touted as being one of the best I4 engines around at the time. Test drove the 156 with the same engine and the diesel, and chose the diesel because I preferred the power delivery, I wasn't even bothered about mpg at the time.
I don't believe they produced the facelift with the V6 IIRC.

This looks just perfect.
Quality of the pictures
The drive, the house.
It all oozes meticulous care for detail. I'd go there and buy that 156 without the need of a test drive, but I'd rather spend the time spared on getting to know the owner. Must be an interesting bloke, who probably could have leased something rather posh but decided to own an Alfa instead.
Could not have put it better myself - I'm a fan anyway, having a 156 GTA SW tucked away. I'm biased, but visually, these really do stand out, more so now for the right reasons against modern kit. Quality of the pictures

Those pictures are stunning. Would shame the production values of most dealerships and a fair few professional photographers.
Haha! Just as well I'm a professional photographer then!www.rafeabrook.co.uk

Got a couple of BMW's as well to remind me what build quality is like!
Still love this car though but just need something bigger for my work gear

They didn't - that example is the orginal...and an import (not that it changes anything about the look). GTA original face and facelift cars were sold side by side until 2005. GTA wings front and back, bumpers and skirts are all unique to the GTA.
Ah, bums. It looked facelifted to these novice Alfa eyes.Seems I was spot on about the skipping of the test drive for some (beer) time
Should I ever need some professional product photography over in the UK I'll keep your details on file, but the marriage part seems unappropriate at a time I am heading towards my first divorce, lol.
Good look with the sale, Rafe!

I had one!! Loved it. The most comfortable car I've ever driven. Sold it as the suspension was gubbed and was a fortune to fix. Alfa Enthusiast bought it.
It had the very rare Mettalic Blue option paint job. I think it was £1100 on the order sheet!!
Very small car for an estate but interior was lovely. All the electrics worked!!!

edit - there was a 156 Shed back in 2014, the V6 facelift pics are in that thread
2.5 V6 was available in facelifted models (this is not a GTAmodel, GTA had 3.2 V6 engine).
Not sure about UK market though
here is walk around.
