I would be pretty mad if I was a current gen type r owner, getting a type r model replaced so quick is going to play havoc with the residuals.
As a current Type R FK2 owner I am not concerned with the residuals. I paid 25K cash for my 2016 car with 5000 miles and £1k of extras plus the 5 year service package included.
The FK2 came late to the market with production of around 9000 cars worldwide (it was not sold in the USA) including about 2500 cars for the uk
.
The new Type R FK8 has been launched worldwide from almost day one of production. The American market being one of the first to receive the car. The new Civic is a larger car with some features I do not particularly like, the electronic handbrake being one! The Nurburgring figures are irrelevant, in the real world, most drivers would not accomplish the quoted figures and there are so many variables that I am not concerned. All I know is that my car is fast enough and puts a smile on my face.

I also believe that the USA is getting the same engine as my FK2, 306hp and not the UK 316hp, due to emissions?

The FK8 is a worldwide sales car whereas the FK2 Type R was not. Making the earlier car more likely to be sought after in the future due to it being a rare beast. How many FK2 Type R's do you see on the road? I think that the market will eventually be swamped with the FK8 just like the VW offerings................No I am not worried about the residuals on the FK2.
Sounds like you got a good deal with a few grand off to start. I'd imagine that you are a rare case though that actually bought cash. Most cars would likely be financed for 36/48 months so the value wouldn't be irrelevant.

Saw one on the A14 yesterday: certainly striking and, as it was being driven at c50mph in the slow lane, I had that "good grief, what the heck is that?" moment as I saw it in the distance. The TV screen-sized "vents" in the rear bumper certainly stand out.

To my eyes - overstyled, but I can certainly see the appeal.
You must be from the Suffolk end of the A14 to call the left lane, the 'slow lane'.

I can buy something just as ugly for 0.25% of the price.

Yes, I think that I am in the minority as far as any new car goes, let alone the FK2.

I am concerned about the whole PCP system. It is all very well driving the latest state of the art car for £300 per month, but under the PCP system you could be paying it for life and never have anything to show for it.
I have absolutely no problem with not owning a car anymore...I'm done with it. I used to have a motability car so I'm used to handing over a certain amount over every month and then handing the car back after 3 years with nothing to show for it. Then starting all over again.

This is exactly what I've done with my FK2, I put down an £8k deposit and my disability benefit takes care of the monthlies, just the same way it did in the motability scheme but this time I get to drive something a bit more interesting.

I saw one of these in the Wilts area a few weeks back.

Reminded me very much of when people used to take a Rover 620 and then slap a 'Delta' bodykit on it, alongside a number of other stick on 'mods' you could buy from Tweeks, mixed in with the kind of taste in bodystyling you'd expect from a mk1 Hyundai Coupe.

Not a patch on the outgoing one, visually.

It will take you a long time to walk the A14 wearing those! But then they are Australian.

I actually like the new Civic, standard model.

Everyone is quick to complain about how all modern cars 'look the same' and are effectively a 'jellymould' - at least you can't say that about the Civic!

What I will say however, is that for the non-sporting models the "not-grilles" sections of the front / rear bumpers are a little too exaggerated. I think this is the feature most dislike, as it almost looks like an aftermarket bodykit. The picture below shows that actually behind these blacked-out areas, the bumper is solid-

The US 'Sedan' spec model looks so much more sophisticated and less shouty - in my eyes I think it's a better looking car.

Much better.

Also, the US market gets a Coupe! How good would a Type R Coupe be? Typically the UK won't be seeing the Coupe model frown

Those pictures all look like Hyundai's to me, but the coupe version looks OK from the back... Could be a new Integra.

'Everyone' says that all the time. Austin Allegro, Austin Princess, Ford Sierra to name but a few. I remember car people at time saying how visionary, how different, how ahead of their time they were. Nonsense. Butt ugly all of them, then, now and always.

But they would be comfortable, unlike the 4 boulders your Datsun has for suspension smile

Beetle? Wind forward some more years, but still very Germanic!

So all you need to do is chip it to 400bhp, and you will have a Porsche turbo trouncing car for a third of the price....

Sorry wrong thread biggrin
Really?? come on there's barely a handful of cars out there that can trounce a Porsche Turbo.
It will give give a run for it's money but overall the 911 would eat it alive...

Latest Focus ST 275 (you know, the Mountuned one) or higher bhp chipping is a bargain at well under £23K with hagggling.... 0-60 in 5.5 maybe less and shod with Toyo R 888 R (toyo's updated R888) gives better steering too. Awesome car.
Agreed - excellent car. Can the 275 put the power down?

Oh dear, all this Germanic talk..............this is exactly why Brexit came about.
Come the time I expect all french and german cars to be repatriated. Honda can stay because it is built in Swindon. smile

But the point here is the performance you get for the pounds spent. Value for money, purchase price, servicing cost, fuel cost, insurance,......all of these should come into the equation. Yep a Porsche would probably beat it, but at what cost?

What the giddy feck is going on with that back bumper?
Looks like the work of a blind man in a power cut!

I quite liked the outgoing model but that new one is a big 'no way' from me thanks.

If it's anything like the standard car I had a brief go in then I doubt.

No it's not, it's a bit st. Sorry, but a Focus ST is hardly going to be a rival. At least talk about the RS.

There might be some good deals on the outgoing FK2 if there are still some unsold?
Could be worth a punt.
