Latest Focus ST 275 (you know, the Mountuned one) or higher bhp chipping is a bargain at well under £23K with hagggling.... 0-60 in 5.5 maybe less and shod with Toyo R 888 R (toyo's updated R888) gives better steering too. Awesome car.
Not a chance it'll be doing 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds, FWD cars with more power, DSG and launch control can only just manage it in that time. It'll definitely need a proper diff as well, the standard car is lacking grip when pushed so a tuned one will be even worse and it'll still be 30 bhp down. It's going to be more like 25k once you have the diff and map but I will agree it's still a bargain though compared to other hot hatches!

I actually like the new Civic, standard model.

Everyone is quick to complain about how all modern cars 'look the same' and are effectively a 'jellymould' - at least you can't say that about the Civic!
Thank goodness for that vomit

In fairness, not having a central exhaust helps it a lot looks wise, although the image you posted is an extremely flattering angle, thinking back to the white one I saw the other day:-

There might be some good deals on the outgoing FK2 if there are still some unsold?
Could be worth a punt.
Yep thats my thinking as well , i'm tempted by the new one but if i can get an older one for 5k off its a no brainer

I reckon a 'fully' Mountune'd one with the MR300 power upgrade, the Quaife ATB Differential, Sport Lowering Springs, 4 Pot Brakes etc, etc... Oh and some more focused Tyres it would be a riot tbh, although you'd be talking RS money for all that. Good alternative though!

I personally think it's much better looking than the FK2. My issue is with the size. I've seen a couple in the flesh now being driven on the roads and they look massive! In fact, i'd say they look more like a saloon than a hatchback. It might just be me but it's something that's been bugging me and probably my only quibble with the car.

In reference the pricing, it's probably about right. Honda really need to be doing some decent PCP/lease deals on these though. Doesn't have to be super-cheap but just something to make them look like an attractive proposition without having to own the car. With the FK2, i've never personally seen anything that's worth committing to over it's rivals.

Wholly agree.

I would say the "problem" is that Honda UK - like Toyota UK are effectively just selling units and they'll sell all their UK allocation anyway. They've no particular urge to push these over a regular Civic or Jazz in the same way as Toyota seem to have no particular urge to push GT86s.

I've tried it with the new Toyo R888Rs and say yes and reckon it's up for more power with this rubber - mightily impressed!

Love this spec - I'm gonna save up for it and try it. Even at the moment with the Toyo R888Rs it's transformed the grip - off the line traction produces no wheel spin with all the electronics on. Yet to try it in Sport Mode 😛

If it's anything like the standard car I had a brief go in then I doubt.
The post facelift actually puts its power down extremely well - people who say otherwise either needed a geo alignment check or need to learn some throttle control. Yes at 10 tenths it starts to get ragged but it's excellent at sane speeds. Probably the best modern hatch I've driven actually - better steering than the CTR. My garage comments sum up my opinion, rightly or wrongly.

You'd be amazed how it feels with the new Toyo R888Rs - the grip off the line so far seems to be compensating for any probs with the standard diff. and just transforms the grip in every dry situation so far. Kept to 18" rims to keep the weight down too, and am really not lacking grip actually - but maybe not pushing it like you suggest? But I like your suggestions of more power and an upgraded diff. - hope to get this and repost once tried.

I'm running vredestein ultrac vortis on my 320bhp 9-5 aero with open diff atm and once out of 2nd I have no issues so I should imagine the Focus with a better chassis won't have any big issues.

At the end of the day 0-60 stuff is largely irrelevant. 1st and 2nd gear I can't shake a standard Golf gti with a 100bhp deficit but once into it's stride in 3rd it's a different story altogether.

FWIW I like the FK2 but am struggling with the new one tbh.

Owning and driving it and since last Thursday with the new Toyo R888Rs grip is just there at any speed in any gear and launching off the line is a doddle now! I agree how it's one of the best and yet gets overlooked....

Interesting about the Vredesteins - good comments about in gear and not all about 0-60

I might add that i am running billies, eibachs, 19s (Hirsch so light) and am extensively poly-bushed. I do have to sacrifice a little NVH there..................

Sorry but again for a focused civic this is just too expensive.

For me the Civic type r was always about affordable fun, competing with the likes of the Renault Clio sport and possibly with the last gen FK2 with the Megan.. Now they are trying to push the boundaries of what the badge has to offer.

No idea what the pricing for the next Renault Megan sport will be but would anyone pay 30-32k for a Renault ?

The civic type r should be priced around the 25-28 in the current market. since a base spec civic starts at £18,475

Maybe i'm just out of touch with new car prices! owning a EP3 Civic type r that cost new in 2004 £16K

I hope lots of people buy them but i feel no civic type r will ever sell as well as the ep3 did.

Yep, I bought a new EP3 in 2005 at 16k and I remember well how everyone went barmy over the fact we could get a 200bhp HH for that price. 16k for 100bhp more 12 years later......................................

Why should Honda and Renault be significantly cheaper than Ford and VW? They tend to be better cars after all...

No it's not, it's a bit st. Sorry, but a Focus ST is hardly going to be a rival. At least talk about the RS.
How grateful pistonhead members, Toyo, Mountune and Ford are for your knowledgeable insight on human waste.
