I think JLR and Aston do it more so and worse, BMW have more just kept the grill design, rather than entire shape of the car.
.
They aren't a scratch on Audi in that regard, they basically invented the idea. Although they have improved a little, in the early 2000's most people couldn't tell the difference between an A2, TT, A4, A6 and A8. And as if that wan't enough, they later brought out an A3 saloon which looked like a shrunk A4.

I personally don't see the point in a bland Jaguar with a sub-BMW interior
The BMW interior is great, mine even has the added pleasure of being a jigsaw puzzle every weekend. Pick the lose bits out of the foot well and clip them back together.

Co-incidentally I am just reading this thread after getting back in the office. On the Motorway today I had a bright Red XF in my rear view mirror, I was thinking how good it looked and from all angles as it went by compared to my 5 series. I know I'm odd in this world ordering a 5 series and then growing to hate the dull, poorly built pos.

Different strokes for different folks and all....

Now only 9 months left until XF, E Class or S90.

lol, I suggest if you couldn't tell an A2 from a TT, then you may need a visit to the opticians wink

Seriously, I'm no Audi fan, infact I'm more of an anti-fanboy. But the A2 and TT don't share anything visually apart from the badge pretty much. Each car has it's own identity.

The new Volvos are really comfortable and great interiors, I'd definitely consider one if I spent a lot of time on motorways, just wonder if they drive as nice as they look

Are all F-Types ear splittingly loud, or had the Coupe that was accelerating "enthusiastically" away from the barrier on the M6 Toll booth yesterday been tinkered with?

Has to be one of the loudest road cars I have ever heard. Thing is, I'm not sure it's actually THAT nice a noise. There's just LOTS of it.

It's a shame as I'd been admiring it for the past few miles. Nicest looking back end of any production car at the moment? Has to be up there, surely.

I've heard of people moaning that they're 'too loud to live with' in V8 form. From what I've seen the V6 is quieter. As for back ends, there are a fair few nice ones, the A7 is lovely too in my mind.

A worthwhile and long overdue expansion of engine choice. The ranges have all needed fleshing out, and the new engines should achieve that. At some point, though, the venerable 5.0l V8 will need replacing - perhaps with a 4.0 Ingenium twin turbo V8?

Jaguar do need to improve their drab interiors though - they are some way behind the German opposition.

As for desirability, I place Jaguar ahead of the Germans in the classes covered here - perhaps with an honourable exception of certain BMW 3 series models (lovely inside, good engines). The styling of the XE has grown on me, and I think it's considerably more attractive than the broken-bonnet BMW, gobby soap bar Audi and melted Merc. The XF is still growing on me, but the outgoing BMW 5 is as elegant (forget the Merc and Audi for the same reasons as their lesser brethren). The F-Pace? WAY nicer than the opposition. What a gorgeous car.

Overall, it's a positive step, and reflective of the fact that Jaguar are still not large enough to cover all the bases that the Germans can. They are getting there though.

I'm glad you've said this.

It's the active exhaust, or rather the blatant cheating of the drive by noise regs. Jaguar aren't alone.

I suspect the exhaust is essentially straight through with the valve in the noisy position. And yes I agree they are more loud than good sounding. The need a "tuned" exhaust note, not just a massive increase in DB levels.

The only decent cars JLR make now are the XF (which drives as a jaguar should) and the Disco sport (which, oddly, drives as a Jaguar SUV should - calm and easy with superb steering and lovely brakes). The Ingenium diesel is an absolute dog. An absolute wailing hound of a motor. In every application I've driven it in. In the F-Pace it's beyond terrible. The F-Pace, generally, is beyond terrible. Awful, awful thing.

I'm might be guilty of living in the past, but the current line up is missing the sexyness of the old days ...

Check out the F-Type concept from 2000 (penned by Keith Helfet of XJ220 fame).
Now that stirs desire!

Where the hell is the XE SVR? Even bloody Alfa have managed to churn something similar out (and made a damn good job of it!).

Where is the 500bhp XE???

Had my Guilia QV for 2 months, love it, but a hot XE would also have been top of the list smile

Recently test drove an F-Pace.
I so wanted to like it, but I didn't. Ride. Power. Noise. frown

The 'infotainment' system is very clunky and not a patch on that of the Octavia vRS sat on my drive.

I would suggest your mind is an unpleasant place to spend time biggrin. To me, the rear of an A7 looks like a dog that's attempting to take a dump whilst its owner is desperately trying to drag it along the ground.

Although I'd agree that the sound of the Jag exhausts are certainly more quantity over quality.

A7 rear looks great. Same goes for the old CLS.

Oh, I agree - the old CLS was great. The new one, whilst looking more 'modern', lost some of the elegance of the original. Coincidentally, the CLS was dubbed the 'Jag fighter' when Mercedes first decided to do a swoopy, good looking saloon.

The A7 still looks like a determined defecating Doberman, though.

Shocking aren't they? I can't understand the positive reviews at all. Pro-British manufacturing bias is all very well but the F-Pace is not a very good car. The bigger diesel hides it's many flaws a bit. With the 2.0 Ingenium diesel though, it's a howler. The other day I drove one back to back with an old-shape Q5 and the Audi was just miles better in every metric. Except for the metrics of size and shineyness. I don't even like Audis and I think JLR's best car, the XF, is a work of art but I was flummoxed by the F-Pace. It's spectacularly awful. I've driven a few, over many miles, so I do have some idea.
