Who cares how much they cost?
Those who have to actually stump up the money. When you actually have to transfer the 50% deposit (yes you did read that correctly! wink ) that's equal to the cost of a 720S it does tend to focus the mind on how much you really want it, even if you do have a garage full of other stuff. wink

You obviously like getting hot and sweaty then as I think the lack of aircon would be a problem even in our temperate climate. wink It's only available in the US anyway.
Never used the air con on any of my cars here in the UK and always spec'd the ac delete option on more hardcore cars.

Harsh on non-us buyers as it's a good pack that shifts quite a bit of weight off the FGT.

I thought smaller FI engines were supposed to be economical? this runs around under ECO-Boost banner doesn't it?....14-16mpg sounds rubbish if that's the case.

I haven't found a good review for it anywhere yet. They all seem to agree, great on track - much less so on the road.

Because they are side-exit exhausts on the GTE car. You effectively only hear half the engine note. They sound great with the onboards.

For the road car, the exhausts are rear-mounted.
And that's how it works with Corvette too. But they still manage to sound insane!
V8... I know it's all personal taste but all the best sounding GTE cars have V8s, the Viper was the exception. Such a shame they don't have a team anymore frown Rather them than the Ford GT.

Makes a 720 look like a .... bargain?

Strange, parallel universe, then.

Makes that Noble M600 seem cheap with its relatively exotic Yamaha v8... Take away the GT40 heritage tag and how many would they sell? That's the only thing the Noble is lacking.

But I love the look of this thing.

The Ford did well at Spa recently too in LM GTEPro, behind only the 2 Ferrari 488's.

Yes and you can put helmets in the luggage space of a M600 too. Apparently, according to Peter Boutwood, it was a specific requirement of the design that two helmets would fit in the luggage compartment so you didn't have to look like an idiot driving to a trackday. wink

Best looking car ever. Built to win races. This is as good as it gets.

Not sure how I would manage to like this new car after watching this. Just can't be beaten.

Funny, people without money discussing if the car is worth 420k. biggrin

This car is Different. The price is irrelevant because the whole production has been sold already. Besides, those who buy such expensive toys couldn't care less about 420k, buy, hold/drive a bit, sell for same/more money.

They designed a prototype car which falls just within GTE spec, and needed waivers to even be allowed to compete. They then sandbagged and abused the BoP process to gain an advantage there for LM as well,

Ford abused and bent every rule they could for a PR exercise.
^ this. the Ferrari protest was par for the course but it's a pisstake that the car was able to race in GTE class. Put it with the LMP cars as it should have been and it'd have a hell of a lot harder a time even with the ACO playing silly buggers imo.

You obviously haven't comprehended my posts then - I can assure you people who spend this kind of money do care about the cost. wink Just because someone has been selected to buy this car, it doesn't mean that they will go through with purchasing it (whether they want to or not) now that it is rather a different prospect to what we were told originally. Oh and as I said before, unfortunately it's more likely to be >£500k than £420K.

No,the engineering on the GT is on a totally different level and i think that the GT is a bargain, even with the plastic switches, the engine's humble roots and the not too impressive stats. It is a true descendant of the bespoke GT1 monsters from the 90s and its suspension design puts the other hypercars to shame.Funny how people are complaing about the lack of luggage space, yet nobody has mentioned the ride, which is better than a Lotus. It is like the LFA(and the XJ220,to an extent),a cost no object project from a large company, and it is a bit daft to be compared to mass produced cars like the 488 and the 720.All IMO,of course.

My comments regarding the original GT40 being a "failure" were aimed at the Mk3, it was meant to be the practical version but basically no one bought one. Even the proper race cars traded for very low sums in the 15-20 years after they raced.

The new GT seems to be an astonishing piece of kit, but given the hypothetical choice I will never have to make I would actually take the new NSX. In the flesh it looks much better than pictures, it is much smaller too. As a few reviews have mentioned the GT is enormous, and it looks it in person too.

Also I know it's a Ford and maybe it looks different in the flesh but the interior of this car looks utterly unacceptable for a 400k car. Some nice design cues but looks like plastic city in there otherwise and doesn't look half as special as a McLaren which is half the money.

They'll sell out. Of course. People will sell them over list for a quick buck. The bubble of car crazy prices does seem to be near bursting though. Who knows, this could be the next XJ220?

As expected, it's a very raw car.
Its looks are spectacular but there are reasons why other sportscars don't look this bold. When you don't care about practicality, it's easy to make something different.

My brother has several 125 2 stroke bikes and among them an italian bike which just like like this car, a homologation special produced in small numbers, basically a small road legal bike with a powerful off road engine . It has totally destroyed the competition in its category for years.
He almost never uses it, the riding position is awful, it's extremely noisy, has zero practicality. But it sure looks good in the garage.

The end result is that he's done 50x more miles with his yamaha 125 rdlc from the same era because it was conceived from the start as a road sports bike.
