Well,it looks much more benign than the typical race car for the road.Dual clutch auto, highly praised ride quality, decent clearance, civilised engine, aircon, etc.Just pack lightly(ok,you cant pack at all),dont entertain fat passengers and it should be ok for touring.

A proper poster car, which is not seen often anymore, despite the significant number of supercars on sale today.

They designed a prototype car which falls just within GTE spec, and needed waivers to even be allowed to compete. They then sandbagged and abused the BoP process to gain an advantage there for LM as well,

Ford abused and bent every rule they could for a PR exercise.
^ this. the Ferrari protest was par for the course but it's a pisstake that the car was able to race in GTE class. Put it with the LMP cars as it should have been and it'd have a hell of a lot harder a time even with the ACO playing silly buggers imo.
But once again...

... Ford were invitied to join the GTE class by GM/Ferrari/Porsche/Aston Martin. That is fact. That was the agreement based on the understanding that Ford produced the road cars. You are not going to get a road car from a LMP1/LMP2 car, for definite. Once again, that agreement did not stipulate that the Ford GT could never be classed as an official entry. To cry foul about it now seems a bit like wanting to take your football home because the lad you invited to play football turned out to be better than you expected.

I'm sure the lure of a historic name like Ford and the potential money/exposure it could bring to the GT category was a big deciding factor in Ferrari/GM, et al agreeing to Ford taking part, but in an arena that is dominated (un-earned, IMHO - but that's another debate) by F1, sportscar racing needs all the money and exposure it can get in order to grow and survive. Now, I understand that there is another debate about how top-end cars like the GT could strangle the GT category and lead to an 'arms-race' in the sport, but for now the racing presented (whether WEC or IMSA Weathertech) is better for Ford being there.

Makes that Noble M600 seem cheap with its relatively exotic Yamaha v8... Take away the GT40 heritage tag and how many would they sell? That's the only thing the Noble is lacking.

But I love the look of this thing.
No,the engineering on the GT is on a totally different level and i think that the GT is a bargain, even with the plastic switches, the engine's humble roots and the not too impressive stats. It is a true descendant of the bespoke GT1 monsters from the 90s and its suspension design puts the other hypercars to shame.Funny how people are complaing about the lack of luggage space, yet nobody has mentioned the ride, which is better than a Lotus. It is like the LFA(and the XJ220,to an extent),a cost no object project from a large company, and it is a bit daft to be compared to mass produced cars like the 488 and the 720.All IMO,of course.
That doesn't read like a compelling argument to spend this much....
The car has decent roots and amazing suspension .... Ok....
But it feels cheap inside, isn't as quick as the competition, is based on/uses humble/borrowed bits and bobs? I think my bespoke and your bespoke mean different things....
And it's overly long gestation has buggered it's worth to those that aren't Ford lovers and/or supercar collectors.... Although theyre the only groups this car needs to be a 'success'...

There seems to be quite a bit of disappointment towards this car at the moment but after watching this video it has completely changed my mind and feelings towards to car.

Yes it's expensive, and yes it's not the fastest car at it's price point, but I think that's missing the point. Think of it more like this decades Lexus LFA. Flawed, but a real event and occasion to drive, which is what makes a legend right?

I've never been disappointed when turned down for a car due to limited availability. This is the first car I couldn't get my mits on where I've felt genuinely disappointed about not getting one. Didn't even get a response from the Ford garage I approached a few times. Good halo marketing and amazing race car. Well jell of Schmee - perhaps he'd be kind enough to let me look around his when it arrives smile

I'd sooner have the 2005 GT.

How did they justify things like such a small tank?

I think it's fair to suggest that most of these will be owned by collectors who have a lot of other cars and can afford to drop £420k on a car a few times over.

If I was in that position I think I'd get one just to do this.

Just look at it.

It's referred to as "Appliance White" (not the official name for it!) on the FGT forum. biggrin Seems to be quite popular though - possibly due to it being similar to old American racing colour schemes, or maybe because it's one of the three no cost colour options.

There are certainly better colours - looks unfinished in white, like a prototype. Yellow with black stripes for me, please.

Really, have you seen it 'in the flesh'? The reason I ask is that I thought it looked good on the configurator but then saw it at COTA and was really disappointed because of the shade. I didn't think it looked any better when I saw it at Geneva either.

I agree about the white but it's a good base for a wrap, which seeing as these cars will need to be completely paint protected anyway, makes sense.

Looks like a cheap hypercar to me, as opposed to an expensive supercar.

Would love one of these.

LOVE the Track mode party trick.
I agree with this. I'm surprised it's being compared with 488, huracans ec as these are common, relatively dull looking supercars produced in their thousands and in some cases used as daily cars etc.

The Ford looks wildly exotic and is far more in-keeping looks wise with zondas, gumperts and la ferraris.

The engine may not be the most thrilling but it sounds good and the performance clearly isn;t lacking at all.

...yet it's reviews aren't stellar....and it's now widely appreciated for popping up and down.
If the 720S's popping up and down dash unit hadn't gathered enough attention.... we now have a whole car that needs to do it.

I'm glad the 488, Hurucan, Zonda et al have so far yet to submit to such trivial 'theatre'...although maybe its a matter of time... they're all being slowly anaesthetised...

Funny, people without money discussing if the car is worth 420k. biggrin

This car is Different. The price is irrelevant because the whole production has been sold already. Besides, those who buy such expensive toys couldn't care less about 420k, buy, hold/drive a bit, sell for same/more money.

I am biased as I like my American cars but the Ford GT is and always will be an icon. However many generations they make over the coming years, it is their achievement with the racing car at Le Mans 50 years ago and most recently. Price £400k and the rest doesn't matter your buying the story and the latest development from Ford.

It's not every year you can go to Ford and say I'm looking for a two seat, rear engine, super car. It's just a shame they don't make a few more really, demand was certainly there for a lot more than the 1000 they will make.

I've read rumors that they'll be releasing a second batch due to the demand.

I thought it was 750 of the 1000 released and then the remaining 250 get released later.
