Seriously though, this whole "fastest NR lap" thing has become devoid of any purpose. Attempting it with electric cars makes as much sense as trying to beat a consumption record with a 2CV running a super tanker engine, and I'm sure that would be more fun. Where is all the fun gone?
Why doesn't it make sense? Are cars only fun because of what powers them? Personally I think this car is amazing and instant torque will never get old to me.

In another few generations, ICE powered cars will be viewed in much the same way as horses and carts are seen now. It's funny as the exact same scepticism was prevalent when Mssrs Daimler and Benz were trying to get their fledging business off the ground...

I'd give some seriously precious parts of my anatomy to drive a 1300hp car around the Ring!!!

Plus it'll encourage Glickenhaus to get on with his own record attempt, the SCG003 is the only ICE engined road car I can think off that now stands a chance. Or maybe McLaren will have another go......

There were some rumours a couple of weeks ago when Kenny Brack was spotting lapping in a P1 LM (the Lanzante-converted P1 GTR) during Industry Pool.

I still think the one:1 might still beat that time

Just what the world needs, another £1m pound car that's good for nothing, except going around the Nurburgring fast.

Impressive stuff but what's the range? 2 laps?

"NIO EP9", the name sounds like a Chinese Budget Android Handset !

The actual sound it makes sounds like listening to an F1 race from three rooms away on quiet tv. The video conveys the speed quite well but the lack of noise means it doesn't have the drama we expect but the forces involved must be pretty immense.

I wonder if the non race record will ever be held by an IC engine car again ? amazing considering how early on we are in EV development and a relative unknown has just sauntered in and grabbed the record from the usual suspects.

I guess this is just a feature of EV's, the already mentioned instant torque, the batteries give a low C of G and the way traction can be controlled more closely, very impressive achievement and even though Nurburgring laps are irrelevant, its a great way to grab attention, certainly got mine.

From the video it certainly looks like it was on slicks.

Poor show giving no telemetry nor tyre details.

I'm fairly sure the technology employed and lessons learned from this car will be good for something eventually...

Who was driving it (can't open vid at work)? I think Tommy Erdos was doing some development work on it but I am not sure he is a Ringmeister.

Cars are fun when they give you a run for their money, when they make you feel alive without necessarily bringing you to the edge of the fatal cliff. While this new electric thing is probably one of the fastest four-wheeled thing around, how poor do you think it will be to drive at any legal speed, in the real world?
Electric cars are being reborn for environmental issues in the context of a world-scale consumer society plagued with politics at every level, and as future disposable appliances no EV will ever reach a classic status that hundreds of ICE-powered cars have over a hundred years.

Instant torque is for folks who can't rev an engine or change gears - TDI syndrom.

Don't think its rumours; they've said they want to do it. Think there are photos on Lanzante's Instagram.

Peter Dumbreck is the driver here.

I've seen photos of the car on track, so that part certainly isn't a rumour, but they haven't released a lap time as far as I'm aware. The rumour I heard was that it went faster than the Huracan Performate (as you would hope and expect) but not by much.

Double the DF of an F1 car? Ahahaha

Some quick fag packet calcs I get a ClA of 5.6m2 for this car vs a ClA of 2.2 for a P1 GTR...

i.e. this car produces double the downforce of a track-only aero monster...

I think someone is fibbing.

An F1 car of 2017 produces 3000kg at 300kph (ATLEAST!) based on numbers Ive seen reported in various areas. This car produces 2400kg at 313kph. Not twice, not even once!

lol what an odd thing to say, when diesels are the antithesis of 'instant' torque.

You have to imagine EVs like the torque is wired straight in to your cerebral cortex - a few milliseconds after pedal is pressed you are at peak torque. The best throttle response imaginable.

Even the best petrol engines are ~0.3 seconds to peak torque from pedal press - its pure physics.

That has nothing to do with being in the correct gear or not, that is pure throttle lag. And it is addictive.

^^ Sounds like you have not driven a properly-remapped fairly recent TDI engine?

Even if I work for a company that produces EVs and I have been able to sample that type of powertrain, they embody everything I loathe in a car. As disposable appliances used in polluted cities I support them, but there is no soul whatsoever in this kind of product.
People down the line may come to this website one day, see "Pistonheads" and ask themselves "wth is a piston"?

It's a whole lot of ghey isn't it.

Zero feeling of involvement/interaction/feeling.. no emotional connection.

It almost shows why ev cars are not the future.
