MB all the way. Don't drive on a track to work, so don't need the M3. And I'd like to get there, so don't want the Alfa.

Alfa for me, such a good looking car. Those seats look a masterpiece.

AMG looks fun but I have no interest in the M3.

Without a second of doubt the Alfa for me (with the automatic). The Merc comes in second and the M3 third.

Chris Harris once wrote an excellent article on the M3 through the generations and how each new iteration gets poor reviews initially only to become loved by the journalists as time goes by, by the time the next new one comes out they love the outgoing one so much they start to slag off the new car...

I see it's starting to happen again, a nice and not before time win for the M3.

That's because the first batch of current M3s was poor. But the performance M3 is highly fettled and eradicates some of the cars original issues. Seems BMW can't get it right first time, they need a couple of goes at it!!
Not really, I drove a launch car back to back against my CP e92 and it was superb, as I said the M3 has always suffered from the process/mindset Harris describes in his article.

And I agree having owned 4 M3s over the last 3 generations and 14 years.

Shame really as (of the three), it's probably the best (when it works).
It is a shame but there reputation of build quality still sticks with them yes it is a lovely looking car and I should be pleased I drove 103 miles on my brand new one and broke down twice now it's in bits and needs boot re painting I don't want it back I want a car I can drive A to B and get there and with the quadrifoglio certially in my case that's never going to happen

Ha ha yeah. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory! It's a bit heart breaking to read of various Giulias packing up in various ways, especially in this day and age and after Marchionne delayed production for so long for whatever reason (obviously not about QC!).

Really don't want to revel in anybody's misfortune but can all of you having problems with your Guilias please reject/return them so I can pick one up at a price that makes the pain worthwhile....

It's such a shame Alfa bottled it with the residuals on the PCP deals, the 4C residuals suggest this won't be a £19k car in 4 years time, they could have made the GFV £28-30k pretty safely and sold a lot more by virtue of having an affordable monthly.

"It's a little bit heavier than the Giulia"

Can we please stop with this misinformation?

The M3 is nearly 100kg lighter than the Giulia. Don't quote weight unless you measure them directly.

That Merc is fugly in saloon guise IMO, it looks absolutely gopping.
Yep, it's predecessor is better looking and has an even more charismatic engine. The new car wins on the arguably less important points of interior toys and function, fuel economy and track times.

I'd take the alpha.
I agree - I prefer the previous 6.2 to this smaller turbo, although one of them (the one with the side stripes and an S badge on the back) overtook me the other day and it still sounded pretty good and my god did it move, I couldn't believe how quick it was.

I too would take the Alfa out of these three - in the same colour as the test car too.

Agreed ... absolutely gopping! hurl I think the coupe is a really nice looking car though but then that's also ruined in my eyes by the chintzy interior.

I think the alfa is stunning and I'm no alpha fan boy!

Always liked the looks of the M3 as well.

That's unfortunate. Just for balance I've done over 2,000 miles in mine with no issues whatsoever. cloud9

You've have been very unlucky. I don't blame you for rejecting it.

Truth is these are all very good cars indeed.

Everybody has their preferences and these three brands are always going to attract comments from fanboys and fauxClarksons.

The annoying thing about the Alfa under review is that the issue in question has been resolved via a recent software update made available to all owners which it seems the press office car hasn't had. Utter stupidity and own goal scoring on behalf of ARUK.

And £60k brand new cars just aren't expected to suffer failures like this.

Alfa, you've just lost the room.

How are the sales figures doing? Have they really lost the room?

Don't like those M3 wheels, I'd fit standard ones if it was me.

I'd be happy with any of the three quite frankly, but first choice would be the Alfa. Many newly launched cars have issues, so I'd wait 6 months and get one, which is probably how long it would take to get one if ordered now anyway.

If that's true, someone in the press department probably deserves to lose their job.

May I remind about Porsche GT3 spectacularly fiery failure and followed recall of all of them? Did they lose the room as well?

EDIT: and how about BMW M5 and M6 driveshaft failures and recall?
