I want to love the Alfa but I honestly think its horrendous looking, I can usually see most people's POV but this one is lost on me. Maybe its because i'm a BMW fan, but I put the MB and the AR both way down on my list of desirable saloon cars. M3 for me!

That's unfortunate. Just for balance I've done over 2,000 miles in mine with no issues whatsoever. cloud9
And so have I, over 2000 miles in mine so far with no issues.

M3's and C63's go wrong too! M156 V8's had problems with head bolts and coolant use, E46 M3 had a big end recall etc etc

I would expect any brand new car to have teething problems. There is always going to the unlucky few, but at the end of the day that is what a warranty is for.

As long as it doesn't become too common, for me Alfa all day long!

Can't believe - for an automotive forum - how many still spell it 'Alpha'. I'm not a pedant by nature, but seriously, hang your heads in shame!
Well said, grinds my gears seeing people repeatedly write "Alpha", although i do wonder if autocorrect is involved too..

Point missed entirely, there is a reason "you are not a true petrolhead until you have owned an Alfa Romeo". Alfa should take the group test BECAUSE the "Check Engine" light came on! You never forget your first "Check Engine" warning light. Mine was 3 miles into the homeward journey after collecting a Maserati Ghibli from a private seller. Panic was lessened slightly as the guy who collected me from Gatwick in an old Testarossa had an engine warning light illuminated the whole way back. Collected my Quattrofromagio from Newcastle last week, 25 years later finally back in an Alfa, utterly utterly utterly ecstatic, it has proved frustratingly perfect so far!

Most people on here don't know what a check engine light is lol. Congrats on the purchase!

Over three thousand miles in mine in all conditions and all different types of road with no issues. Taking it to Milan and the Alfa Romeo museum next week!

1500 lovely miles in my Quadrifoglio so far and it's perfect.
Can't believe Alfa gave a car to the press without updating to the latest software version first so this didn't happen. Pure stupidity.

I don't agree (beauty is in the eye of the beholder though) but it does look better in the flesh than in pictures for some reason.

Here is my 103 mile Alfa romeo quadrifoglio
Oops no dash car don't run 4 weeks old
All options ticked including carbon seats and Alfa romeo customer services passing the buck
Dealer has been told be me I don't want the car and there answer maybe Alfa romeo will give you some compensation
Like couple of tickets to goodwood but don't take Alfa it is 140 miles from where I live so it won't get you there
How about £25 worth of Alfa accessories, or even a full tank of fuel but I left three quarters of a tank in the car
Take a leaf out of Lamborghini customer service when I bought my new Lamborghini they were on the phone welcoming me to the brand and 2 years trouble free motoring not a single problem but they still call and ask how the car is going
So looks like only winners in this case with Alfa is the solicitors who will be fighting it out

Thank you but it is down to solicitors and if I lose fair enough I will have to have it back and get rid of it or give it my son for a weekend run about long has he don't go far in it , don't want him calling me to tow him back
When I broke down Sunday night and called Alfa romeo in Italy for a break down service they turned up in a rusty old white transit full of new batteries and at one point tried to sell me one as Alfa romeo don't cover warranties on battery's on there cars if they have covered more than 100 miles and must be under 4 weeks old my car had covered 103 miles and was 4 weeks 1 day old so out of Alfa romeo warranty for battery's , but I never bought a battery he got the car running and guess what 10 miles later it broke down again so another call out this time with a rusty old pick up , and words from Alfa romeo mechanic , can't get that on back of my low loader car is to low
I will give you another battery back boost to get you going ,
I did ask him do you get many Alfa romeo's break down calls , his reply I came on shift at 8pm and your the 3 rd Alfa tonight, I really think Alfa are proud of there cars breaking down

My mate picked up his brand new VW Tiguan the same time as I got my Quadrifoglio (about 6 weeks ago).
His car is back at the dealers with the complete dash removed. Any car can have a problem unfortunately.

Very true can happen to any car, dash board out which as happened to me
But also the boot as to be re painted and Alfa quadrifoglio is 25 k more expensive than the VW
And I bet VW call out mechanics don't use old rusty 01 plate transits and try to sell you a battery as mechanics own words Alfa don't warrant battery's after 4 weeks old
And mine is not the only one, there are now 2 more with same problem as mine ( not re paint)
They have openly omitted from Alfa tec guys in Italy try not to leave car without using for more than 2 weeks
Or battery could drain
On my Lamborghini I know this can happen because of tracker etc..
so I use a trickle charger I had to do this with my ferrari and Porsche gt3 RS and was told this by all of the above dealers
Where you can plug this into car cigarette lighter , you can't do this with a quadrifoglio you have to use trickle charger with clamps direct in the battery
I bought the quadrifoglio as a weekend run about, not as a every day car and the very most in a years driving would be no more than two thousand miles tops
But I expected better customer service from Alfa Romeo which I have not got and from dealer
So the battle will go on with solicitors and courts costing a fortune for both parties but I am standing up for consumer rights on this

Agreed. A complete mish mash of trying to blend existing Alfa design cues with a more modern body shape - resulting in awkwardness from most angles. Add in reliability issues and I'm not getting it at all.

Most modern cars suffer niggles, and the performance models more than most due to the ever increasing complexities of the electronics. However, it's how the mf's deal with the problems that differentiates and it appears that AR are failing miserably on this score. I'll be interested to see sales figures and early residuals, I suspect neither will be pretty.

This was my problem with my old Focus RS - car with great potential, but dodgy steering, sticking exhaust valve flaps, and Ford just not interested or claiming it's a characteristic of the car - must be why the forums are full of people complaining about both, as well as the thirst for new engines!

In this group I want to love the MB given I drive its predecessor now, but I'd take the M3 because I couldn't drive that monstrosity of a C63 saloon. I just don't get how they got it so wrong with the saloon when the coupe and estate versions look so good.
The M3 drives very well, great handling and is in my eyes the best looking car of this group.
The Alfa to me is too understated and the front just looks wrong somehow like it's missing the rest of a front splitter. Still wouldn't mind a test drive in one mind!

I was the other way around, I thought it looked OK in pictures - nothing special but not too bad. Then I saw one in the flesh and it was a bloated mess; by some margin the worst looking of the three to my eyes (and none of them are exactly lookers).

The Alfa would be my choice, followed by the Merc as the BMWs just leave me cold. At least you would get some thunderous sound from the Merc.

I was initially dissapointed by the looks of the Alfa when I saw the launch video and couldn't get over the similarity to the M3. However in real life I became a complete convert, it looked like a different car and when people say..it looks different in real life, it really does.

In terms of this group fail, it wouldn't surprise me if this was Alfa forgetting to load the latest software updates that they seem to be releasing on a regular basis to prevent end user dissapointment. However it does seem from Dales comments that they haven't nailed the CS element yet, and can understand Dales frustration - I hope this gets sorted for you soon ! However as others said, this is unfortunately the case for a few lemons across all manufacturers and price bands, it just needs Alfa to step up and do the right thing.

Got to be the Alfa. Its the real deal this time and after driving one it has something many cars miss, Character.

The Merc's engine is awesome but the novelty wore off after a while. The M3 is good but it plays 2nd fiddle to the Alpina and I would just be thinking mmmmm I should of got the D3 / B3.
