I think the guy has just made a mistake - the basics of the Ford GT engine (the V6 part) is the same as used in one of Ford's trucks (not the Focus), but I'm guessing that's probably limited to the block and heavy components and chosen because it will be bomb proof and is proven as such from featuring in millions of miles of Ford Truck usage.

The problem is that stupid people take everything they hear on Top Gear as being their own thoughts and regurgitate them as such. (See the other thread for some dick calling it the 'lifestyle lambo'.)

ETA: I believe the engine shares it's structure with the 2017 F-150 line (including the Raptor, so no doubt this is a bh of an engine!)
Having an engine based on something used in a commercial vehicle didn't do Porsche any harm in the 924...944...
oh no wait, it will get brought up all the time....
Obviously it is a total irrelevance but there is a big price difference between a 924 and a Ford GT though.
I expect the jokey truck engine reference will be less amusing if you've just forked out half a million.
I'm actually inclined to believe that anyone who has been given an allocation and forked out half a million, will not give a flying friday about the 'truck engine' reference.

From Autocar:

"The engine is interesting: yes, it’s boosted to 647bhp, but fundamentally it’s a pure Ecoboost unit, with 60 percent parts commonality with one fitted to Ford’s F-150 pick-up. (The quick Raptor F-150, but still, a pick-up.) "

whatever the ring time, I think this does represent a massive two fingers to Ferrari and Porsche and McLaren having to or deciding to go FI and/or EV assist

Superb.

It thankfully counteracts the Urus in as magical a way as a GT3 cancels out a Cayenne.
complete joke isn't it, the amount of research and development that went into the 918/p1 and La Ferrari, the insane ~1000bhp and exotic materials and tech and yet they get completely demolished by a Hurrcan with a bit more power and a fancy wing!

I obviously have no evidence, but I'd have actually thought it was the other way around.

Joe Public buying a hot-hatch or cooking saloon probably doesn't care whether the engine is a bespoke unit or derived from a version lower down the range.

Jo Highroller on the other hand probably does care a lot more about the heritage of the brand, the origin of the engine etc. as at that level the purchase is 100% emotion 0% actual need.

So I guess the SR8 LM, which was developed with a budget of around a tenner about 8 years ago and is powered by parts of a broken lawnmower, completely humiliates Lamborghini's attempt at a fast car?

Or it doesn't. I can't remember how to play this game.

Well you'd think that would be true, but some rich and successful people still get very worked up by the slightest criticism...Mr Trump for example can be baited into an incandescent rage by a mere jokey tweet.

My view is it is an utter non story - but I do think some people will get annoyed by it - however irrational.

I'm guessing you've never seen one in person or even a photo then! they aren't comparable with the Huracan, trust me - it has absolutely no practicality (google SR8 LM and look at images)

Would prefer a MKII Superleggera but this doesn't look too bad in the right colour, with the right wheels smile

"Hey love, just nipping to the shops in the SR8 won't be long"

Comparing the 2 is a bit apples and oranges really.

Tenner and lawn mower engines? £100k aren't they?

No windscreen. No roof. No doors. Yeah obviously comparable to normal car.

I see the Ferrari trolling at the track, but is there some McLean trolling with the orange?

Fair point. However, I do hope that it's the minority and not the majority. Hell, even if a bunch of people cancelled orders from what I understand they have another gazillion people waiting in the queue to jump right in with their 500k - so it's all moot, really.

For someone to say, "Ha, that has a truck engine!" is more relevant than when people refer to a Porsche 911 as a 'Beetle', but assholes are assholes! If I was lucky enough to be getting a GT, they could laugh at my engine all day long for all I care! smile

When they were new I had a 996 GT3. That was too powerful for the road and a bit of a liability (to licence and liberty). It was wonderful to drive though and having no traction control liable to bite. This Hurucan has so much performance I can't imagine how you would access even a fraction of it on the road. Yet it
Is so expensive and relatively heavy I can't see it makings great track car either - if you have £160k to spank on a Lamborghini you certainly have £25k to spend on a Caterham, which would be more rewarding on track.

I don't suppose the purchasers of the peformante will be upset as most will not doubt be used for cruising around Knightsbridge looking for opportunities to show off.

FFS.

Do people really believe this st?

I've driven my Lamborghini's three times in London. On the day I collected them from Lamborghini London.

It's a very small percentage of owners (of any marque) who do the London scene.

Such a tired old cliche.

I own a Lamborghini and not once has it been to London in my stewardship. It has a) Blasted round the north York moors b) been spanked through the dales and c) once cruised through the tunnels on the Leeds ring road.

This Knightsbridge cruising in a lambo thing is only for a small percentage of owners. #wkers #lifestylelambo
