The irony of calling a tracksuit normal clothes...

I'm not a fast cyclist, with an average speed of 15odd mph on my commute, but the difference between when I wear baggy MTB stuff and more tight fitting is noticeable, both in gps measured speed and in subjective comfort. Less rubbing and better cooling. Unless I have run out of stuff I keep the MTB stuff for the days I cycle to the station or going off road where my speed is lower.

See? I told you.

I suppose it does at least explain all the effort that goes into justifying getting stuck behind cyclists - it would be so much healthier to admit that you stay there because you're enjoying the view, though, even if you just admit it to yourself.

(PS: non-matching helmets - not a good look, frankly.)

So what would you suggest I wear then? Tweed? A nice Aran sweater? Rigger boots and a hoodie? Maybe a three-piece suit with a nice shirt and tie?

Or perhaps I could interest you in a large portion of my latest dish? It's called "fk off and mind your own business"... tongue out
Cyclists aren't confrontational, argumentative and are nothing like wasps always looking for a fight... no, not at all. :P

BTW. I am a cyclist, though not as much these days, but I just wear normal clothes. Jeans, T-shirt, fleece, whatever I'm wearing that day. I wear proper gear for motorbiking but that's to save road rash and major injury. You won't see me dead in lycra.

My point was, why is the lycra trend increasing so much this last decade or so? Seems like it's become a fashion thing or a trend. Or maybe it's the sudden up take in cycling and middle class people (myself included) do like to throw money at their hobbies.

Do tell???
You wear lycra because you have repressed sexuality issues?!
No, lost me. Surely they're doing the opposite of repressing anything? biggrin

Because it's appropriate and comfortable, I guess.

See also football boots - how many different varieties for different surfaces and conditions? When I was a kid you got six screw-in studs and had to make do with the same boots for rugby and hockey, too.

Likewise golf clubs, tennis gear etc etc - the kit that's designed for the sport tends to make it more enjoyable - although next time I want to go for a swim I think I might drop in on Yellowjack and borrow his Aran jumper and rigger boots, just for sts and giggles.

These days it's everyone who even looks at two wheels thinks they can't ride a bike without putting on some bizarre gimp outfit.

I understand why the lycra, but 90% of the benefits will not be experienced by your average cyclist.
Why do cyclists wear lycra? It's lightweight, doesn't absorb a ton of sweat and doesn't slow you down like loose, flappy clothing.

Why so swimmers wear trunks? Why do runners wear trainers? Why do divers wear wetsuits? Presumably they are also all 'bizarre gimps' in your eyes, you bigoted idiotrolleyes

I really desire a dashcam. The other day I overtook a cyclist who was riding in the middle of the road (?) yelling at people who overtook him on the other lane of the 2 lane road. Overtook him, got sweared at also, forgot.

2 miles or so later stuck at temporary traffic lights, along comes cyclist, gets to end of queue, cycles up pedestrian-only pavement and undertakes everyone on said pavement. Then I see him swearing at the road work people for in the way whilst digging up the road ahead. Absolute tosser.

Then theres the cyclist I overtook and then when I was crossing a roundabout to go straight on, he decided to not stop, cut up the car behind me / too my right and then undertook me on the roundabout and tried to go round me to go right as I was going straight. I had to do an emergency stop on the roundabout to stop knocking him off...he hits the side of my car with his hand and swears at me.

I can see why people do st like get out and chin these s.

Howcome in every one of these threads, he just insults different people, with personal insults, and doesn't get banned?

It's basically golf on wheels. With added attitude.

'Some' cyclists are incredibly selfish people. Often in rush hour on 40mph and faster 2 lane roads, with no cycle lane, there appears one slow lycra clad cyclist. The presence of whom means hundreds of cars in lane 1 slow down to a crawl whilst each in turn indicates and awaits an opportunity to get into lane 2 to overtake this individual.

Each to their own, but personally I would be embarrassed to be that cyclist.

Note I said 'some', due to the fact it tends to be one idiot on his own.
so why is this selfish behaviour? because the solution is to say that cyclists mustn't used that road, because car drivers want to and they're more important. which is selfish.
Glasgow 'some cyclists' Mega Snake - it is from now on then.

And that's why you're a poor driver, you can't contain your temper. If you're this bad on a forum I'd hate to think how you are when you're in a tin box.

Brave clap
Funnily enough, and unlike on this forum, on the road I don't tend to meet the same self righteous intellectually challenged bell end every day and have them spout nonsense with no knowledge of the person they are speaking to so no, actually on the road I am fine and have not 'lost my temper' in over 30 years of driving.

All that may of course change if I see you pedalling along however as there is not a fibre of my being that would stop me having a proper chat with you in the real world if I had the complete and utter misfortune to meet you. Thankfully that's not likely so now run along and please stop making accusations about what I know about physics or how I drive etc.

You know nothing about me so it's childish, irksome and frankly stupid to keep doing so! The only thing I have said about you is you are a self righteous dolt, because your posts make you come across like that, maybe you just hide your intellect well or maybe you just can't find it in the first place!

Okay, I don't have a car as slow as a Griff to compare with, but the Cerb is insured for just over £200. hehe

Obviously the insurance company thinks I'm a better risk. Do you think they may have read this thread?

How's that for hostile smile. BTW I had to struggle with this post. Its difficult to be argumentative with someone who owns a Griff. When I see that car in your history I can't actually bring myself to post anything argumentative anymore. Griffs really are gorgeous.
