Depending on how smart the stystem is you shouldn't have to sit revving. In theory you can take off as normal but not having to come off clutch easy the system should catch the revs and progress them through the set map (that's what is done after each upshift)???

My Evo 8 had launch control added when it was remapped.

Used it once, it was utterly ridiculous, felt like i'd been shot out of a cannon.

Never did it again...

I had it on my 997 911 GTS, and I used it a lot. It was good fun. Sitting at the lights, another fast car next to me, we both have a bit of a laugh, and everyone goes home happy.

Like all driving "aids" launch control is pointless. For a road car faster does not equal more fun. It is for the sort of show off who loves auto blip because they can't be bothered to learn how to heal and toe.

Just sit back and watch them break their car, the manufacturer will get rich repairing gearboxes and driveshafts biggrin

But it's not just about learning heal and toe, a computer can rev match a lot better than any human, would never make a mistake in doing so unlike a human who'd make a mistake say every 15 downshifts (unless your name is Aryton or Senna wink )
Not necessarily gearboxes that'll break either, clutch will let go before the box does and even then to strip first gear in most cars is very hard

My 1998 Ford Focus has developed passive launch control in the past few months. I can't see what all the fuss is about to be honest.

It's on all the time in the Porsche. Just put your foot down with clutch in, revs stay at 4k. Dump clutch. No buttons.

I can't remember the last time I made a mistake on a heel and toe down the box, probably the first week I started driving quite a few years ago...

This biggrin

Fun is obviously a hard concept to understand on PH for most people it would seem , so they end up posting dumb and un-fun questions or answers.shoot
