This is definitely one of my favourite threads. I could easily agree with most people's choices. I could have happily picked from the 50s, 60s and 70s too. biggrin
OP has a history of starting some great threads here on PH.

I'm definitely not satisfied with providing only 1 list so this is me indulging my OCD tendencies as I couldn't allow myself to rest if I didn't.

Born 1970 s here goes:

70's:

Owen Sedanca. Could anything epitomise the decade more? Epic but utterly impractical styling, a British oddity killed by the '73 fuel crisis. I need one now, along with Jason KIng's wardrobe & 'tache!

1st Reserve: Saab 95 V4 estate. Always loved the styling plus my Jack Russells would be grateful for the boot space. A friend of my Dad owned one, a fine chap who smoked Clan tobacco and played the accordion. Sometimes at the same time.

80's:

Need some Bavarian muscle here and something suitably OTT to suit the times so for me it's an E32 7-series. Let's say a 750iL in dark blue - it must have an original carphone though.

1st Reserve: Another BM though a lot more subtle, an E30 convertible in metallic blue with BBS alloys. Used to see one near where I lived and it's purity of design is spot on. I spoke to the owner recently and he still gets as much pleasure driving it as I did seeing it (I did also pass a subtle hint but think "classic" values have nixed that dream)

90's:

The easiest decision so far: Volvo 850R estate in primrose yellow with graphite alloys. All the car I'd ever need though the dogs may end up like champagne corks in a phone box once I get going..

1st Reserve: Peugeot 306 GTI-6. I drove a base model diesel at launch and was very pleasantly surprised by the handling so I can only imagine how good the chassis is on this iconic hatch. One of these also left me wondering which way it went on the Mountain Road (IOM) while I was having fun in my Accord Type R.

00's:

Going left field here: MG SV X-Power. Another British folly and probably held together with gaffer tape and good faith but with the consolation of a thumping V8 and people pointing asking "WTF is that?"

1st Reserve: Going with the herd a bit here but would have to opt for a Honda S2000 and a few spare pairs of boxer shorts.

10's:

Like many I'm struggling. I could give in and choose a 5 star N-Cap rated 300 bhp+ hot hatch with more electrical toys than a branch of Anne Summers but will instead add another vote for the Mog 3 wheeler. Utterly impractical and like riding a Waltzer to work but what a wonderful, charming thing. Suspect that narrow, wet disintegrating Manx roads may not be the ideal environment though..

1st Reserve: Skoda Superb estate. May not put a tilt in my kilt but pretty much the total package for what I need. Should I stumble into considerable wedge the I'll have an Alpina B5 Touring in blue instead please.

Great topic, destroyed my concentation in work thumbup

Brilliant thread OP. thumbup

But I shouldn't have revisited it! I was pretty happy with Escort Cossie for the 90s, then someone nominated a Lotus Carlton and someone else picked the McLaren F1................!

Maybe we have been spoilt for choice. laugh

90's - Rover Metro.

I was only born in 97 so don't really remember many 90s cars but I've recently became a fan of Metros, this one at Ripon back in April was really nice.

2000's - TVR Sagris.

Just an epic machine. Not much more to say really, this one I saw at Shildon Locomotion in April.

2010's - Aston Martin Vanquish S.

Just a really classy car, saw this one at Ripon Racecourse in April at the same show as the Metro.

I like your taste, that GT5S was my car until quite recently, the friend who took that photo as part of a photo shoot captured just how dramatic this model is. Loved that car, probably my all time favorite. M600 is another cool choice, I have never seen one in the flesh, but would love to experience a drive.

The Stratos would have been my choice for 70s if I had been alive then... and the 288 would have been third on my 80s if I had put it on there (after the Sport Quattro and F40). Then again if was to win the Euro millions tomorrow night I would be trying to assemble a collection of the group B homologation cars. 205 T16, Delta S4, 037, 6R4 RS200 and of course the quattro. 288 and 959 as a bonus since that's what they were developed for wasn't it? Too many cars I like from the 80s. Would also want a Stratos....

Did you change the Pantera for something else? I absolutely love them, though the only GT5S I've ever seen in the flesh was the last one built - http://archive.li/QrKSY - owned by a neighbour of mine when I was a kid.

Cars I've actually owned from each decade I've been alive;

50's MGA TwinCam; lovely, superb engine, gearbox and (all round disc) brakes
60's MG Midget Mk II, my first car
70's Alfasud 1200 ti, at last a car that actually handled
80's Peugeot 205GTi, just a 1.6, but the first new car I ever owned, and a brilliant drive
90's Aston Martin DB7 Vantage
00's Aston Martin DBS
10's Aston Martin V12 Vantage probably the best car I ever had, to be replaced soon by a manual V12VS roadster

Brilliant thread! Can't think why I haven't seen it before.

Now, assuming the idea is to own all these cars at once as a 'stable,' thanks to some sort of fairy godmother.......

I'll start with Jag XK150 Roadster to deal with the 1950's. If that's too expensive for her then I'll take a Sunbeam Talbot 90 convertible.

The 60's? A Miura or an Aston? Be honest, they're out of my league so I'll have a Radford Mini please. Black with silver roof and to the waistline. Webasto roof, Dunlop D1 wheels, Elpico roof ariel, Benelite grille.... Just how I remember them.

Next decade has to be a Stag. Strong period colour too. Vermilion rings a bell.

My 80's choice wouldn't have appealed to me back in the day - but looking back...... Citroen CX Safari. Another black car, another full length sunroof but we'll blacken the windows as well this time. If that one fails us I'll seek out my actual daily driver from that period. Volvo 245 GLT.

On to the 90's. No doubt in my mind. Range Rover Classic, Soft dash. Standard out of the box, no body kit, no bull bar, but a dark exterior with light coloured leather seats. Engine as it comes as long as it is petrol.

How about a Subaru for the 00's Imprezza WRX in the full cliched blue with a big spoiler. The Bug Eye one please, 03 or 04, before that ugly 3 piece grille came in.

For the current decade? Can't get excited about anything so can I have another oldie please? Make it a Mercedes W108. Even a diesel would be fun.
