As a styling exercise I think the Evoque looks really good and the Disco. Sport doesn't look bad either.

Rightly or wrongly, I still feel twitchy about either as a reasonably long term ownership proposition... That's the sticking point for me.. Friends have had enough hassles with Land Rover / Range Rover products to make me nervous..

The Smaller LR products out of Halewood have a completely different quality record than any larger SUV or Jaguar product coming out of Solihull!

My wife's Disco Sport is just over a year old now and has been faultless from new. The 180 hp diesel Ingenium engine is refined and powerful enough for this type of vehicle.

Disco Sport looks a compelling proposition - 7 seats, strong image, now a proper engine. Price will be interesting, the 290 version must be circa 50k
I think that's unlikely; the Evoque with the 240 petrol is £45k, and that's generally priced higher than the equivalent engined Disco Sport.

The full-fat Disco with the 340bhp V6 starts at £53k.

It's all well and good putting fantastic new engines in the Evoque but if they are mated to that stupidly agricultural Gearbox they currently use, then forget it

On reflection I think you are right, 50 is too strong - possibly more like 44 for the 290

bit miffed its took them this long to put petrol engines in them for the UK, when they have been exporting them with petrol engines since launch.

A powerful SUV very useful for mountains . More than that, it's a beautiful car .

How do you guys think diesel will fare in the future?
I personally think it'll be around for a while yet. With the current backlash based around uncertainty (will diesels be allowed in my local town center, who aside from VW has been cheating?), once the smoke clears I think people will miss 40mpg and mid-range torque. Particularly in SUVs.

I would buy another diesel SUV without a moments thought. Probably stick with petrol for sports cars and small hatches though.
I think diesel is modern day asbestos.

At last!

I tried every way to get my Disco Sport with a petrol engine.

Not that the Inginium is a bad motor. I just have no need for a diesel.

I love my Discovery Sport despite its issues and I'm considering an F Pace next. But with the prospect of "my" car with petrol and a decent dollop of power, I'll look at the DS again.
