It should do as the V6 and V8 are a shared block - physically their external dimensions are the same. They've got to have a beefier gearbox and diff, but the engine bay should fit.
IIRC it's a shared crank-case; different block and obviously different heads. The question is whether the engine will need to be pushed forwards to get the extra height in at the back of the engine bay, and if it does whether there's enough bonnet clearance for the front of the heads to meet pedestrian safety regs. Plus of course the cooling requirements will vary significantly between the V6 and V8.
ETA: Bit more detail: http://blog.caranddriver.com/block-party-creating-...
As you've noted the heads are a bit trickier, so a plug change might be harder work than the V6, but they wouldn't have to completely re-engineer the chassis to fit the V8.
Cooling would probably be the most difficult bit, but I'm sure not insurmountable. If Aston can get the V12V to work, I'm sure SVR can get this working.

The flared wheel arches finally give the XE some personality.
Those arches look great and enhance an otherwise meh car.
If they're CF the moulds are much much cheaper (although per part price is obviously higher)
Having said that I don't see how they can flair the rear arches like that without aluminium panels.

The only other number firmed up for now is the production: Jaguar will make just 300 XE Project 8s, designed for "enthusiasts and the most discerning collectors" across the globe. As such expect the price to be beyond the conventional rivals, particularly with the car being hand assembled at the SVO Technical Centre
Sounds almost Porsche-like in how they intend to sell it. Better start making friends with the manager at your local Jaguar dealership, or you may find yourself judged unworthy to buy one.base model + 600bhp.
I like the thinking, They can offset costs by doing same to the F pace ( 600bhp SUV) which will bring in the $$.
Great idea but has to be the common mans Jag and not too expensive. Or more expensive, Or not extremely expensive.
I think it might end up too expensive and invalidate the good idea, maybe I am wrong though.
Tricky juggling act all these niches as might impact on another car in the range.

Here's a video for the car
Sounds the same as a F type V8

That's a bit like saying the engine in the 911 is 50 years old. It's a continuation of the same family but it's not the same engine.
I was on the AJ133 (5.0) development team. The only parts carried over from the previous 4.2 were the cylinder head bolts and the exhaust tappets. Everything else was a new design. At the time (2009) we had to rein it in massively so that the input torque didn't overwhelm the ZF 6-speed box. The engine design's got plenty of headroom in it.
